About The Position

We’re seeking a Communication Representative to join our team! In this role, you’ll assist with switchboard operations and manage incoming calls, pages, and messages, ensuring accurate and timely communication. The 0.0 Representatives must be available to fill in for planned and unplanned operator days off; requires working a minimum of one regular scheduled shift and two on-call shifts per month as well as covering some weekend and holiday shifts. Candidates must be available for initial training when our call volumes are highest, between 8am and 6pm, 4-6 hour shifts, 18-24 hours per week. This initial training lasts 4+ weeks depending on how many calls are received and how quickly skills are learned, typically a total of 50-100 hours.

  • High school diploma or equivalent

  • One year of experience as a secretary, receptionist, or in customer service in a busy public office.

Responsibilities

  • Support switchboard operations by handling incoming calls, pages, and messages, ensuring accurate routing and timely communication across the organization
  • Prioritize and manage calls based on urgency while providing excellent customer service to patients, staff, and visitors
  • Monitor alarm systems (fire, medical, panic, gas, weather) and relay critical information to appropriate emergency teams
  • Coordinate after‑hours communication, relay messages to on‑call staff, and maintain up‑to‑date contact lists and on‑call schedules
  • Arrange auxiliary communication services, including ASL and LEP interpreters, to support patient and visitor needs
  • Assist with daily telecommunications operations, report issues, and support troubleshooting to minimize service disruptions
  • Contribute to process improvement by communicating system inefficiencies and maintaining documentation, logs, and emergency communication records
  • Support emergency response efforts as needed, including participation in the Hospital Emergency Incident Command System
