The Women & Gender Studies Institute is distinctive for transnational feminist studies which critically addresses how national borders, colonialisms, labour and migration impact life, knowledge and politics. We are dedicated to exploring the entangled work of gender, race and sexuality in identities, relations, practices, theories and institutions. Reporting to the Director, this position will be responsible for overseeing the planning, execution, and management of a variety of projects related to communications and outreach, with a focus on internal communications, external communication, and special project management. The incumbent will develop and maintain a well-planned and consistent internal communication plan connecting students, faculty, and staff in all programmes across the three campuses. Responsibilities for the external communication plan includes presence on social media, event planning and promotion, website management, media inquiries and newsletters, alumni outreach, and effective communication with relevant offices across the University. The position will also assist with developing and maintaining a well-planned and consistent student recruitment communications strategy.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree or acceptable combination of education and recent and equivalent experience.
  • Minimum four years of recent and related experience in outreach event and programming development and execution.
  • Experience organizing outreach events and initiatives from creation to execution and evaluation.
  • Experience in identifying and recommending creative outreach program initiatives that expand outreach audience profiles.
  • Proven experience investigating and pitching stories, executing interviews with academics, students, alumni and donors, and other groups of related interest, and writing feature stories.
  • Experience with tracking communication metrics and website analytics and preparing reports in order to evaluate and enhance communication initiatives.
  • Understanding and evidence of a commitment to feminist, anti-racist and queer positive principles, with direct integration in communications and events work.
  • Demonstrated experience with web publishing tools, social media and content management systems.
  • Experience writing and editing content for publication and promotion, design layout, production and distribution in hardcopy, electronic format, and on websites.
  • Experience in creating, editing, and distributing marketing and promotional material for events, programming, and outreach initiatives.
  • Advanced skills in photography and videography production and editing in Adobe Creative Cloud or other relevant platforms (e.g., preparing rundowns, booking spaces, identifying equipment required, writing script, editing audio and visual elements, etc.)
  • Advanced skills in content management and publishing tools (e.g., OneDrive, SharePoint, Box, MyMedia, YouTube, Vimeo or similar)
  • Advanced skills in MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) as well as MS Teams, Zoom, Survey Monkey.
  • Advanced skills with social media (Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, and LinkedIn).
  • Well-developed interpersonal and customer-service skills, with the ability to interact with others in a tactful, polite, professional, and diplomatic way.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrated superior organizational, time management, and problem-solving skills.

Nice To Haves

  • A Master's Degree in Women and Gender Studies is preferred.
