About The Position

Grambling State University is seeking to hire a full-time Communication Officer 1 in the University Police Department to receive incoming calls for police services and dispatch officers as appropriate. The ideal candidate should possess competencies in communicating effectively, demonstrating accountability, focusing on customers, accepting direction, acting with ethics and integrity, following policies and procedures, and managing time.

Requirements

• Six months of experience in transmitting and receiving messages by radio or in administrative services; OR Six months of training in a business or clerical-related curriculum in a business school or technical institute; OR Fifteen semester hours of college training.
• Must meet the terminal operator certification/re-certification requirement within six months of employment as required by the National Crime Information Center (NCIC) and Louisiana State Police Terminal Operator Certification Program Guidelines.
• An applicant who has been convicted of a felony or who is under indictment on a felony charge will be disqualified until relief from the disabilities imposed by state and federal laws is granted.

Responsibilities

• Receives calls concerning crimes, emergencies, and other requests for police assistance.
• Monitors and responds to 911 calls from the University system, as well as from campus "Blue Light" emergency telephones and Mobile App.
• Determines the nature and location of calls.
• Determines the priority of calls and dispatches units accordingly.
• Keeps the watch commander and field supervisor informed of field situations.
• Performs advanced level duties which requires complete independence.
