Reporting to the VP, Media and Stakeholder Communications, the Communications & Media Relations Specialist plays a key role in shaping and amplifying the voice of the Canadian Chamber of Commerce across media and stakeholder channels. This position is responsible for developing and executing communications initiatives that strengthen the Canadian Chamber’s reputation as a leading and trusted voice on the issues shaping the future of business in Canada. The successful candidate will create high-quality, audience-centric content while supporting proactive media relations, digital communications and cross-functional campaign execution. The ideal candidate has a passion for news, business success, and is a strong storyteller and strategic communicator who can translate complex policy and business issues into clear, engaging and accessible content tailored to multiple audiences. They are highly collaborative, digitally savvy and experienced in navigating fast-paced public relations environments while managing multiple concurrent projects and deadlines. This role requires experience working with media relations, content management systems such as WordPress, customer relationship management platforms including HubSpot, and project management tools to support integrated communications planning and execution.

Requirements

  • Minimum five years of experience in public relations, corporate communications, journalism, public affairs, media relations or content strategy.
  • Post-secondary education in communications, journalism, public relations, marketing, or a related field.
  • Demonstrated experience managing media relations and developing communications strategies in a fast-paced environment.
  • Exceptional writing, editing and proofreading skills with strong command of grammar, syntax and storytelling principles.
  • Ability to translate complex policy, advocacy and business topics into clear, informative and engaging content.
  • Experience using: WordPress
  • HubSpot or similar CRM platforms
  • Project management tools such as Asana, Monday.com, Trello or ClickUp
  • Highly organized with strong project management skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines simultaneously.
  • Strong analytical and strategic thinking capabilities with the ability to identify issues and recommend solutions.
  • Comfortable conducting interviews and gathering information from internal and external stakeholders.
  • Collaborative team player with strong interpersonal and relationship-building skills.
  • Self-motivated, adaptable and eager to learn and grow in a dynamic environment.

Nice To Haves

  • Preference is for someone with a background in or close to journalism, PR, media relations, senior writer or business communications spaces.
  • Knowledge of Canadian business, economic and public policy issues is considered a strong asset.
  • Bilingualism (English and French) is considered an asset. Native or near-native levels of French spoken and writing capacity is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with teams across the organization to execute integrated communications, thought leadership and content strategies aligned with the Canadian Chamber priorities.
  • Research, write and edit a wide range of high-quality content for business-to-business audiences, including Blogs, Op-eds, speaking notes, scripts, Media releases, Annual reports, Toolkits and stakeholder materials
  • Develop and implement communications strategies that support organizational reputation, advocacy priorities, stakeholder engagement and corporate objectives.
  • Support the VP, Media and Stakeholder Relations in proactive media relations efforts by developing and maintaining relationships with reporters, editors and media contacts to generate earned media coverage.
  • Conduct media monitoring, reporting and analysis to evaluate communications effectiveness and identify emerging opportunities and risks.
  • Manage and maintain media distribution and stakeholder contact lists using platforms such as HubSpot.
  • Manage website content updates and optimization through WordPress, ensuring content is current, engaging and aligned with SEO best practices.
  • Coordinate communications projects and timelines using project management platforms and collaborative workflow tools.
  • Support cross-functional communications initiatives by contributing strategic recommendations, presentations, reports and campaign plans
