About The Position

The Foundation for Defense of Democracies (FDD) is a Washington, DC-based nonpartisan research institute focusing on national security and foreign policy. FDD offers internship opportunities designed for meaningful professional development, including a twice-monthly speaker series and collaboration with FDD scholars and experts. Stipends are available, and the organization can assist students seeking academic credit. Both hybrid and remote options are offered. Applications are considered on a rolling basis, and early submission is recommended. Incomplete applications will not be considered.

Requirements

  • Must have at least a 3.2 GPA (on a 4.0 scale).
  • Should have a relevant course of study and have completed coursework in International Relations, Security Studies, History, Communications, Journalism, International Economics, Political Science, Computer science, and/or a relevant STEM field of study.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office programs, including Word.
  • Basic Excel skills.
  • Must be able to commit to a minimum of 22 hours per week.
  • Must be eligible to work in the United States.
  • Strong writing skills desired.
  • Hard working and eager to learn new skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with website content management systems.
  • Experience with HTML.

Responsibilities

  • Monitor the organization's media profile.
  • Assist in tracking media metrics.
  • Assist in developing contacts in broadcast/print media.
  • Utilize writing skills to synthesize research products.
  • Help craft social media content.
  • Engage in other communications activities.
