About The Position

Cornell Cooperative Extension of Wyoming County has an opening for a part-time Communications Coordinator working from the Warsaw, NY office. The Communications Coordinator is a member of the administrative support team accountable for providing consistent, quality publications and related PR/marketing materials for the Association’s programs. Responsible for the implementation of coordinated public relations, marketing, mass media efforts for individual programs and the overall Association and serves as part of the program support team under the supervision of the Executive Director.

Requirements

  • Associate or Equivalent Education. GED/High School Diploma plus 1-year transferrable program/functional experience may subsitute for educational component.
  • Four years of experience in marketing, desktop publishing, communications, design, or similar field.
  • Ability to meet travel requirements associated with this position.
  • Ability to meet acceptable background check standards.
  • Ability to work flexible hours, which may include evenings and/or weekends, as appropriate.
  • Ability to clearly communicate (speak, read, and write proficiently) in English.
  • Demonstrated proficiency with multiple windows-based software and hardware technologies including Microsoft products such as, but not limited to, Outlook, Access, Word, Excel, and Adobe products such as Acrobat, InDesign, Photoshop, and Illustrator.
  • Ability to design and technically execute creative, dynamic, and interactive user-friendly web pages.
  • Experience in using social media (Facebook, Twitter, etc.) and QR code generating in a professional setting for PR and marketing purposes.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively through oral, written, and visual channels using traditional educational tools, as well as electronic technology (e.g., video, audio, web, etc.)
  • Ability to work independently, organize workload, handle administrative details, work under pressure, and establish priorities according to Association requirements.
  • Ability to maintain a positive and professional attitude and appearance. Maintain a positive public image of CCE when dealing with the media, public, clients, staff, volunteers and committee members.
  • Ability to work in a typical office environment which may include lifting, moving, and/or transporting office supplies, work related materials, and equipment with or without accommodation. Responsibilities

  • May provide moderately complex administrative tasks in planning for communication and marketing efforts for the Association.
  • Assist in planning effective strategic external and internal communication efforts and marketing efforts.
  • Make recommendations to Executive Director for strengthening and improving the marketing plans.
  • Plan mass media efforts and utilize good marketing strategies to generate appropriate public image and messaging.
  • May provide input into communications budgeting and feasibility of program communication goals.
  • Provide moderately complex administrative tasks to guide the implementation of communications strategies, both program specific and association-wide ensuring all media and PR products comply with Cornell University Style/Brand Requirements and Association imaging/branding strategies.
  • Produce (develop, edit, format, and publish) and manage high quality visual graphic elements and publication-ready material, photographs, newsletters, brochures, charts, reports, forms, posters, and other promotional materials using sophisticated computer programs/ software applications such as Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, etc. based on established association policy.
  • Support educator staff with preparation of program brochures and fliers as well as general Association brochures and displays with Executive Director and/or supervisor guidance. Act as production and marketing resource for staff.
  • Collaborate with program staff and Executive Director to develop, create, design and produce association annual report.
  • Assist staff with maintaining and updating website and/or social media content to ensure current and timely news and information.
  • Collaborate with the support staff team to provide general administrative support for all association programming as needed.
  • Actively Participate in team decision-making activities.
  • Coordinate marketing/relations for the County Fair.
  • Under guidance of Executive Director, serve as liaison with community organizations for marketing and communications.
  • Establish and maintain a network of media and marketing contacts that are kept informed of CCE programs and events.
  • Create media opportunities and direct press inquiries and opportunities to appropriate staff.
  • Provide backup support to the receptionist/administrative assistant as needed for front desk coverage, mailings, program registrations and similar duties, as necessary/required.
  • Prepare and submit accurate expense reports, mileage reports, receipts/supporting documentation, and/or vouchers in a timely manner per established policy and procedures.
  • Maintain confidentiality of all information and data collected, accessed, and/or maintained.
  • Provide data and information to assist with preparation of reports, impact statements, and success stories for funders, advisory committees, Board, and others as requested.
  • Transport self and/or program materials/resources necessary for performing position responsibilities.
  • In cooperation with the Supervisor, jointly develop and pursue a professional development plan as a means to increase competencies relative to position accountabilities and to address changes in programming and association priorities.
  • Participate in all required orientation, training, and/or in-service meetings and events as scheduled/required.
  • Support the association to maintain a safe working environment.
  • Be familiar and strive to follow any applicable federal, state, local regulations, association health and safety policy/procedure/requirement and standard.
  • Act proactively to prevent accidents/injuries and communicate hazards to supervisors when identified.
  • Collaborate in activities that are in general support of Cornell Cooperative Extension including but not limited to attendance at staff meetings, timely reporting of expenses, working with other staff, general marketing of Cooperative Extension programs and other duties as assigned.
  • Conduct all programming and activities in accordance with applicable federal, state and local laws and regulations.
  • Aware of, and adheres to, established Cornell Cooperative Extension Association policies, procedures, processes and Skills for Success.
  • Represent Cornell Cooperative Extension to the public, community leaders, colleagues, volunteers, members of Cornell University faculty and staff, government officials and the general public in a professional manner at all times.
