About The Position

Reporting to the Communications Manager – and in close collaboration with respective unit leadership – the communications coordinator helps support, foster, and advance Facilities’ customer experience, workplace culture, trust, and visibility/impact using intentional and effective communications, engagement, public relations, brand management, marketing, and advancement efforts. The communications coordinator works closely and collaboratively with stakeholders – including but not limited to construction and maintenance teams, university leaders, communicators, contractors, and government officials – to execute effective and comprehensive communications. They translate complex technical and construction-related information into clear, audience-appropriate content for internal and external audiences. They also help create a positive culture and foster a more connected workplace. The communications coordinators are responsible for coordinating an aligned comprehensive communications program across the Division of Facilities’ matrixed organizational construct. While responsible for communications for their respective unit, the communications coordinators will be expected to cross collaborate and as necessary, rotate, areas of responsibility to support divisional objectives.

Requirements

  • Bachelors degree in fields of Communications, Public Relations, or related; Building Construction, Construction Engineering, or related; and/or Sociology, Anthropology, or related
  • Demonstrated comprehensive communications experience (including writing/editing, social media management, photography/videography, graphic design, web development/management, etc.) OR demonstrated construction project management experience with working knowledge of communications methods and willingness to learn
  • Proven ability to translate complex technical information into clear, audience-appropriate messaging
  • Exceptional communication skills, interpersonal skills, diplomacy, and the ability to effectively interact and build trusted relationships with diverse internal and external constituencies
  • Strong writing, editing, and presentation skills
  • Self-motivated, creative, detail-oriented, and able to manage multiple and competing priorities in a dynamic environment with minimal supervision
  • Demonstrated proficiency or relevant experience and willingness to learn in the following platforms: Adobe Creative Suite; Microsoft and Google Suites; web content management systems, social/external media in-app and management systems; and project management systems

Nice To Haves

  • Demonstrated comprehensive communications experience (including writing/editing, social media management, photography/videography, graphic design, web development/management, etc.) within architecture, engineering, or construction (AEC) environments
  • Demonstrated project management experience
  • Experience managing stakeholder communications and sensitive information in high-risk or regulated industries
  • Experience developing and ensuring content meets or exceeds digital accessibility standards
  • Experience developing and maintaining policies and procedures
  • Familiarity with AEC and/or facilities management (FM) principles, trends, and industry; preferably through professional experience (apprenticeships and internships acceptable)

Responsibilities

  • Plan and execute comprehensive communication strategies and outputs that support Facilities efforts across campuses
  • Write, edit, and publish information that advances the division’s customer experience, workplace culture, trust, and visibility/impact through a variety of platforms including but not limited to web, newsletters/email, social media, print, and presentations/reports
  • Create visual content through the use of photography, videography, and graphic design that supports divisional objectives
  • Coordinate with respective unit leaders and teams, Communications and Engagement team members, Marketing and Communications colleagues, and other key stakeholders to foster effective and aligned project and communications efforts
  • Serve as primary contact and representative for Communications and Engagement efforts within the designated business/support function as well as for the designated business/support function among greater divisional communications initiatives
