About The Position

The Department of Pathology at McGill University is seeking a Communications Assistant to coordinate and schedule scientific lecture series and departmental events, including Research Day. This role involves organizing catering, managing departmental purchasing, and maintaining transaction records. The Communications Assistant will also monitor and respond to inquiries via the department’s general communication email, manage the Department Website, draft reports, and assist in the creation and distribution of the department newsletter. Additionally, the position supports day-to-day operations and special projects as assigned by the Chair, and supports the Chair with Departmental activities.

Requirements

  • Proven communications and events experience, preferably in an academic or healthcare setting.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills.
  • Strong written and verbal communication abilities.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and email/calendar tools.
  • Ability to work independently and handle multiple priorities.
  • High School Diploma
  • 2 Years Related Experience
  • Authorized to work in Canada and willing to work in the province of Quebec.
  • Knowledge of English: McGill University is an English-language university where day to day duties may require English communication both verbally and in writing. The level of English required for this position has been assessed at a level # (qualifier) on a scale of 0-4.

  • Knowledge of Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences policies would be an asset.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate and schedule scientific lecture series and departmental events, including Research Day.
  • Organize catering for events and specific event related purchases.
  • Manage departmental purchasing and maintain records of transactions.
  • Monitor and respond to inquiries via the department’s general communication email for upcoming events.
  • Manage the Department Website.
  • Draft reports (annual reports etc.).
  • Assist in the creation and distribution of the department newsletter.
  • Support day-to-day operations and special projects as assigned by the Chair.
  • Support the chair with Departmental activities.
