About The Position

The Waakebiness Institute for Indigenous Health (WIIH) is seeking a Communications Assistant to support the development and execution of the institute’s communications and marketing initiatives. This role is responsible for editing and maintaining digital assets and both digital and print promotional materials, maintaining and updating the institute website, and managing online and social media platforms. In addition, this role will support the planning and marketing of Indigenous research seminars, workshops, and academic lectures. The Dalla Lana School of Public Health, where WIIH is housed, is a leading public health school in Canada, engaged in research, education, and service initiatives to address health disparities and improve population health.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in communications, creative writing, marketing or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Minimum two years of relevant experience supporting the development of communications materials to support strategic initiatives and/or programs.
  • Experience with editing promotional and outreach materials, and supporting the production of communications for a diverse community
  • Experience with drafting and editing content for print and/or online communications channels
  • Demonstrated experience disseminating promotional and outreach materials via social media and other online channels to promote initiatives
  • Experience working with internal and external contacts to collaborate and complete communication projects.
  • Knowledge of indigenous cultural safety and lived experience of indigenous knowledges
  • Experience customizing maintaining and updating websites.
  • Demonstrated experience tracking andmonitoring digital communications activities
  • Proficiency with content management systems (Drupal, WordPress), social media platforms, newsletter software and survey tools.
  • Demonstrated proficiency and experience working with Adobe Creative Suite.
  • Excellent writing, proof-reading and editing skills with attention to detail.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to establish effective working relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated professionalism and strong customer service orientation.
  • Ability to apply, implement, and contribute to standards, policies, protocols, processes and guidelines.
  • Ability to deal effectively with multiple prioritiesand multi-faceted and conflicting deadlines, including flexibility in adjusting to changing circumstances.
  • Demonstrated organizational and analytical skills with the ability to work effectively under pressure independently and in a team.
  • Ability to manage projects, demonstrating initiative with a willingness to learn new technologies and stay informed on best practices.

Responsibilities

  • Formatting and maintaining websites and communication templates
  • Editing promotional and outreach materials and disseminating to internal and external stakeholders
  • Verifying that content is consistent with brand identity guidelines and formatting layout of online information
  • Supporting communications and community networking for indigenous cultural safety initiatives
  • Liaising with internal and external contacts to coordinate and organize materials for the execution of Indigenous research seminars, workshops, and academic lectures.
  • Preparing schedules for the release of pre-planned social media content
  • Drafting and editing content for print and/or online communications channels; collecting digital assets for online platform use
  • Disseminating information via social media and tracking and monitoring activities
