About The Position

The Communications and Community Program Coordinator supports community outreach efforts through the Stafford County Virginia Cooperative Extension (VCE), with a focus on 4-H and horticulture-based programs. This position is responsible for promoting existing programs through various communication channels, serving as a community liaison to respond to inquiries and program requests, and coordinating with Extension Agents and the Master Gardener Coordinator to connect residents with appropriate educational programs and resources. The position is part-time up to 28 hours per week. The hiring range for this position is from $19.85/hour to $27.30/hour based on experience. The full salary range for this position is from $19.85/hour to $34.74/hour to provide opportunity for growth and development.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of social media marketing, primarily Facebook and Instagram
  • Strong writing, organizational and communications skills to effectively describe and promote community programs
  • Demonstrated Digital Media Skills (Canva, Google Drive, Excel, Microsoft, etc.)
  • Ability to manage multiple projects, work independently, and collaborate in a team setting
  • Ability to pass a background check and to perform 4-H volunteer training
  • Ability to occasionally assist with programs occurring during the evening or weekend hours
  • Ability to flex work schedule to support business needs and to not exceed 20 hours per week
  • Graduation from high school and one year of work experience, preferably related to communication

Responsibilities

  • Expands outreach into the community through increased communication and engagement
  • Develops and distributes fliers, newsletters, social media posts, and information related to the Stafford VCE office and programs
  • Serves as the initial point of contact for community program inquiries and requests; intakes community program requests and works with a corresponding Extension Agent or Master Gardener Coordinator on a response
  • Assists with staffing the office, including answering the door and phone
  • Supports the Extension Leadership Council and other stakeholder groups, helping to plan meetings, taking meeting minutes, and distributing after-meeting action items
  • Provides support in planning and executing events and programs, at times during evenings or weekends
  • Performs related work as required.
