About The Position

This is a full-time, in-office position located in Oklahoma County. Under the direction of the Associate Director of Integrated Communication, the Communication Specialist creates messaging and resources to strategically promote TSET to current and future partners, supporters, and communities across Oklahoma. The Communication Specialist is part of a team responsible for raising the visibility and impact of TSET.

Requirements

  • Excellent writing ability.
  • Knowledge of AP style.
  • Graphic design experience (Adobe Creative Suite, Canva or similar).
  • Experience in client-facing roles such as public speaking and other outreach activities.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Excellent time management skills with a proven ability to meet deadlines.
  • Collaboration and ability to work with team members to achieve agency goals.
  • Able to work independently as well as in collaboration with colleagues, partners, grantees, and stakeholders.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Windows and Microsoft Office products.
  • Bachelor’s degree in marketing, journalism, advertising, communication, or related field preferred.
  • At least three years of related experience in writing and editing projects as well as graphic design; portfolio of relevant previous projects highly preferred.

Nice To Haves

  • Motion design skills preferred (particularly experience with After Effects).
  • Knowledge of and experience in philanthropy, the nonprofit sector, public health, and state agency operations preferred.
  • Broad familiarity with the agency’s history, structure, and operations.
  • Understanding of the agency’s program areas and mission.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

Responsibilities

  • Actively supports TSET’s commitment to preventing cancer and cardiovascular disease in Oklahomans and creating healthier places for all Oklahomans to live, work, learn, and play.
  • Collaborates across the agency to fully understand programs and communication needs.
  • Based on assessment, coordinates and produces communication resources and deliverables for TSET programs and projects through completion.
  • Utilizes writing and design skills to create compelling communications, including website and social media content, emails, videos, and direct mail, delivering on-brand content that tells engaging stories.
  • Evaluates success of outputs when completed.
  • Generates fresh and exciting ideas for messages and other creative assets, identifies target audiences and effective channels, and directs all content needs to drive results.
  • Assists in production of the TSET Better Health Podcast, which may include interviewing guests, editing audio, or co-hosting.
  • Maintains business and/or regulatory communication tracking and reporting procedures and enacts and follows those procedures.
  • Travels to grantee and partner locations throughout the state, as needed, to provide technical assistance, consultation and communication support. Also travels in-state and out-of-state, as needed, to build capacity, provide training or receive training.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
