About The Position

The Massachusetts Commission for the Blind (MCB) seeks a Communications Coordinator, a dynamic storyteller and content creator. The Communication Coordinator oversees all the agency’s communication channels, addressing the internal MCB community and the public. The Coordinator crafts the strategies, messages, and campaigns that spread our message to the world and advances MCB as the Commonwealth’s premier agency dedicated to helping individuals who are legally blind live and work independently. Under the direction of the Commissioner, the Communication Coordinator will promote MCB’s mission by developing a consistent brand messaging strategy and establishing and maintaining its online presence. MCB is a learning and participatory performance culture with an emphasis on high-performance teams, individual performance/contribution/impact, and engaging in activities to promote and support programs/regions/agencies (e.g., committee membership, internship programs, presenting at Town Halls, achieving learning and performance goals). Requirements

  • Demonstrated experience with the principles and practices of human resource management, including behavioral techniques, planning, forecasting, organizational development, etc.
  • Experience with the methods used to prepare charts, graphs, tables, and general report writing.
  • Capacity to analyze and determine data's applicability, conclude, and make appropriate recommendations.
  • Experience gathering information by examining records and documents, and questioning individuals.
  • Ability to assemble items of information under established procedures
  • Adept at determining the proper format and procedure for assembling information items.
  • Ability to maintain accurate records.
  • Mastery in writing concisely, expressing thoughts clearly, and developing ideas in a logical sequence.
  • Ability to establish and maintain harmonious working relationships with others.
  • Capacity to adjust to varying or changing situations to meet emergencies or changing program requirements.
  • Ability to exercise sound judgment and discretion when handling confidential information.
  • Knowledge of the principles, practices, and techniques of supervision.

Nice To Haves

  • Minimum 3 years’ experience preferred.
  • Detail-oriented and highly organized, with a strong ability to successfully multi-task and manage priorities; able to prioritize items by urgency and risk while working promptly.
  • A compelling writer who can draft content concisely, express thoughts clearly, and develop ideas in a logical sequence.
  • An ability to present complex information to various audiences (ranging from subject matter experts to the public) clearly and succinctly.
  • Experience in developing and implementing successful social media and communications strategies.
  • Outstanding communication, analytical, and interpersonal skills.

Responsibilities

  • Develop content for internal and external communications, including but not limited to newsletters, mass emails, brochures, flyers, event invitations, speeches, scripts, surveys, annual reports, press releases, social media, and MCB's web pages.
  • Oversee content production management for mass.gov/MCB.
  • Develop a web content strategy encompassing MCB's goals and aligning with the agency's mission and brand.
  • Use target keywords to write search-engine copy optimized for search engines (SEO) while remaining entertaining, informative, and accessible.
  • Develop and institute procedures for new content by leading a cross-program and regional team to maintain and create content for internal and external sites and monitor its effectiveness over time.
  • Ensure a continuous quality improvement loop for all department web pages; respond to user feedback on lower-performing content and re-imagine the content's structure, flow, and quality to quantifiably improve the user experience.
  • Confirm the highest possible accessibility standards for screen readers and all page elements that are not visible to accessible devices.
