And that's where you come in: We’re looking for a detail-oriented and motivated Commissions Accountant to join our accounting team. This role focuses on accounting for sales commissions, capitalizing and amortizing commission costs under ASC 340-40 (the accounting standard for capitalizing and amortizing the incremental costs of obtaining a customer contract, including sales commissions), and contributing to the accuracy of financial reporting. This is an entry-level position, and we welcome applications from recent graduates. The ideal candidate brings a solid foundation in accounting principles, excellent organizational skills, and a proactive approach to learning and improving processes in a collaborative environment.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance, with a preference for Accounting. CPA eligibility is a plus.
  • No prior work experience required. Recent graduates are encouraged to apply.
  • Coursework in or familiarity with ASC 340-40 and accounting for sales commissions.
  • Strong Excel skills.
  • Excellent organizational abilities and attention to detail.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
  • Proactive problem-solving skills and a commitment to continuous improvement.

Nice To Haves

  • Exposure to NetSuite, Salesforce, or commission management tools like CaptivateIQ or Xactly is a bonus.

Responsibilities

  • Commissions accounting and month-end close.
  • Perform commissions accounting functions, including preparation of journal entries and account reconciliations.
  • Assist in the month-end close process to ensure commission expense is recorded accurately and on time.
  • Calculate, capitalize, and amortize commission costs in line with ASC 340-40.
  • Process and reconcile commission clawbacks and true-ups, adjusting capitalized balances and expense as needed.
  • Analyze commission expense fluctuations and prepare supporting schedules as needed.
  • Cross-functional collaboration.
  • Work closely with Payroll, FP&A, Sales Operations, Revenue Operations, and Sales teams to ensure accurate commission reporting.
  • Collaborate on the implementation of process improvements and system enhancements related to commissions.
  • Process improvement.
  • Identify opportunities to streamline commissions accounting processes and increase efficiency.
  • Support automation initiatives within the commissions accounting function.
  • Compliance and reporting.
  • Assist in the preparation of commission-related financial reports for management and external auditors.
  • Ensure compliance with internal controls and company policies related to commissions accounting.
