About The Position

Wood Harbinger is seeking a Commissioning Technician (or Provider, depending on experience) to support the commissioning process for a variety of projects. This role involves field verification, functional testing support, documentation, and coordination with contractors, engineers, and owners. Requirements

  • Commissioning Technician: 0-3 years of experience in commissioning, construction, facilities, or building systems (entry-level candidates with strong technical aptitude encouraged to apply)
  • Commissioning Provider: 3-5 years’ experience in commissioning, construction, facilities, or building systems
  • Certified Commissioning Provider: 4+ years’ experience and certified in commissioning in one of the following: BCCB (CCP), NEBB (CxCP), ACG (CxA), ICB/TABB (Cx Supervisor), AEE (CBCP), University of Wisconsin (QCxP), ASHRAE (BCxP)
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering, Physics or similar
  • Associate degree or technical training in Electrical, Mechanical, or Building Systems OR equivalent field experience
  • Certificates Commissioning, TAB, or Controls Systems
  • Onsite Job Training in Mechanical, Plumbing, Electrical, or Building Trades
  • Basic understanding of building systems and construction drawings
  • Ability to read mechanical and electrical plans, specifications, and one-line diagrams
  • Ability to understand control sequences of operation, controls logic is a plus
  • Ability to write technical documents
  • Familiarity with testing instruments (multimeters, infrared thermometers, anemometer, light meters, data loggers, etc.) is a plus
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, and PDF markups
  • Strong attention to detail and documentation accuracy
  • Clear verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively with project team members internally and externally
  • Willingness to regularly travel within greater Puget Sound area, with occasional travel within the broader pacific NW.
  • Willingness and ability to access construction sites and work flexible hours as required by testing schedules
  • At least one day a week in our Bellevue office for team collaboration, with some flexibility based on project on-site work.
  • Field work varies week-to-week based on project schedules and ranges from zero to multiple days a week in the field; the average is 30% on-site/70% in office.
  • Ability to safely work in active construction sites, climb ladders, and access equipment rooms.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to work in indoor and outdoor environments under varying conditions.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with the commissioning of systems, including HVAC, building automation systems (BAS) and direct digital controls (DDC), plumbing systems, emergency power systems, lighting controls and daylighting systems, and specialty mechanical, plumbing, process, and electrical systems.
  • Review technical documentation such as design documents, Operations and Maintenance (O&M) manuals, and systems manuals.
  • Perform field observations to verify installations comply with design documents and commissioning requirements.
  • Verify Functional Performance Testing (FPT) by developing test scripts, verifying operations, documenting functional testing, collecting data, documenting system responses, identifying deficiencies, and assisting in troubleshooting.
  • Assist in developing and maintaining commissioning documentation, including specifications, plans, checklists, test forms, deficiency logs, and reports.
  • Maintain meeting records and equipment tracking logs.
  • Document field findings clearly and accurately.
  • Track issue resolution and retesting activities.
  • Coordinate with owners, architects, engineers, contractors, manufacturers' representatives, and vendors.
  • Attend meetings, site walks, and system demonstrations.
  • Support owner training sessions and turnover activities.
  • Follow internal Quality Control Process.
  • Follow all jobsite safety requirements and company safety policies.
  • Maintain professional conduct in office, meetings, and on construction sites.
