About The Position

Henderson Building Solutions is seeking a Commissioning Technician to join our team in Las Vegas, Nevada. A Commissioning Technician is responsible for executing building commissioning and retro-commissioning activities that help ensure building systems operate as intended and meet owner project requirements. This role performs field observations, equipment testing, functional performance testing, report generation, and project planning activities while supporting the successful delivery of commissioning projects. Working closely with contractors, engineers, owners, and facility personnel, the Commissioning Technician evaluates HVAC, plumbing, electrical, and control systems, documents findings, develops commissioning documentation, and assists with troubleshooting and system optimization. This position supports a variety of projects throughout the Las Vegas market and surrounding region, including commercial, hospitality, education, retail, mission critical, and large-scale development projects. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, organized, curious, and eager to learn, with strong communication skills and a passion for building systems and field-based problem solving.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant engineering field, or four (4) or more years of experience in lieu of a relevant degree. Relevant fields may include Mechanical, Electrical, Fire Protection, or Architectural Engineering.
  • High School Diploma or General Education Degree (GED).
  • Ability to reliably and predictably carry out the functions of this job.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work with some degree of independence while accepting supervision and mentoring as needed.
  • Ability to understand drawings and specifications and how they translate into a building.
  • Understanding of mechanical and electrical systems for commercial, institutional, and light industrial facilities as they relate to commissioning.
  • Basic knowledge of automation and control systems, HVAC systems, plumbing, fire alarm/life safety systems, lighting and lighting controls, and testing and balancing.
  • Understanding of ASHRAE, ACG, and LEED commissioning requirements.
  • Knowledge of and experience with Microsoft Office, AutoCAD, Revit, and Bluebeam.
  • Ability to read and understand blueprints.
  • Valid driver's license.
  • Willingness and ability to travel approximately 40-50% of the time.

Nice To Haves

  • Commissioning certification (NEBB TAB Technician or Commissioning Technician).
  • Previous commissioning experience and/or testing and balancing experience.
  • Mechanical or Electrical Engineering degree.
  • Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) certification.
  • Experience with DDC controls programming, controls project management, or building automation systems.
  • Experience in Testing, Adjusting, and Balancing (TAB).
  • Experience working for a commissioning firm, engineering consulting firm, controls contractor, or TAB company.
  • Experience supporting large commercial, hospitality, retail, education, or mission critical projects.
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple assignments simultaneously.

Responsibilities

  • Creates owner project requirements, construction plans and specifications.
  • Reviews drawings and maintains a record of comments.
  • Generate checklists and tests for equipment.
  • Make site visits to complete pre-functional test checklists.
  • Generates site observation and issues reports.
  • Reviews equipment submittals and maintains a record of comments.
  • Performs testing, adjusting and balancing tasks, which includes adjusting air and hydronic systems.
  • Makes site visits to complete functional performance tests.
  • Generates site observation and issues reports.
  • Generates final reports.
  • Makes site visits to troubleshoot issues.
  • Assesses equipment operation and conditions.
  • Generates reports summarizing visits, equipment conditions and recommendations.
  • Develops and maintains client relationships.
  • Setups projects and folders.
  • Evaluates budgets to determine the proper allocation of resources and time for each job.
