About The Position

Join WSP’s Building Performance team as a Commissioning Specialist, where you’ll help improve how buildings perform—today and into the future. Based in Edmonton, Regina, or Winnipeg, this intermediate role is ideal for professionals who are passionate about high‑performance buildings, collaboration, and continuous learning. Requirements

  • 4–8 years of related experience in building systems, commissioning, energy, or performance consulting.
  • Journeyman Mechanical, Electrical, or Building Automation Technician or a Diploma or Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Electrical, or Building Systems Engineering, Alternative Energy, or Building Sustainability.
  • Strong understanding of building systems performance, operations, design, and optimization.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, along with strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Valid Class 5 Driver’s License and willingness to travel occasionally within Canada.

Nice To Haves

  • Professional designation such as CET, P.Tech., E.I.T., or P.Eng. (preferred).
  • Accreditation related to commissioning or building performance (e.g., LEED AP, CCP, CxA, CEM, CMVP) is considered an asset.
  • Experience with ASHRAE energy audits, new construction, major renovations, or project management is an asset.

Responsibilities

  • Contribute as an active member of multidisciplinary project teams focused on enhancing the functionality and performance of new and existing buildings.
  • Deliver commissioning project outcomes, including design reviews, system verification procedures, and clear, actionable summary reports.
  • Collaborate with owners, designers, and builders to achieve high‑performance building goals such as LEED, Net Zero, and Carbon Neutral outcomes.
  • Conduct site visits to assess installation quality and identify opportunities to improve efficiency, operations, maintenance, and equipment longevity.
  • Support commissioning, energy audits, and retro‑commissioning activities in coordination with WSP’s technical leaders.
  • Apply Quality Assurance and Quality Control practices to building systems and project documentation.
  • Help develop and enhance internal processes, tools, and templates while promoting best practices across the organization.
