About The Position

The Commissioning Agent supports both traditional commissioning and retro-commissioning of commercial, institutional and government facilities. This field-based role focuses heavily on HVAC and building automation/control systems while also supporting commissioning of electrical, plumbing, lighting, life-safety and other building systems. Responsibilities include evaluating system installation and operation, reviewing controls and sequences, performing functional performance testing, troubleshooting system issues, analyzing BAS trends and documenting findings and corrective actions. On retro-commissioning projects, the Commissioning Agent evaluates existing building systems to identify operational deficiencies and opportunities to improve performance, reliability and energy efficiency. On new construction and renovation projects, the role supports the commissioning process from design and construction through functional testing and project closeout. The Commissioning Agent works closely with owners, facility staff, engineers, contractors and controls providers to verify that building systems operate as intended and meet project requirements. This position will be based in the Atlanta area and will support projects throughout the Southeast and across FSE's national project portfolio, requiring frequent travel.

Requirements

HVAC, mechanical, controls or building systems technical education/training, or equivalent field experience.
Strong technical background in commercial and institutional HVAC systems and building operations.
Hands-on experience testing, starting, troubleshooting and evaluating HVAC systems including chillers, cooling towers, boilers, AHUs, RTUs, DOAS units, ERUs, VRF systems, VAV systems, pumps and VFDs.
Strong understanding of BAS/DDC systems, including sequences of operation, control points, sensors, actuators, alarms, schedules, setpoints and trend data.
Experience with commissioning, retro-commissioning, building optimization or energy-efficiency projects.
Working knowledge of mechanical and plumbing systems and general understanding of electrical and fire/life-safety systems.
Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
Ability to read construction documents, specifications, control drawings and sequences of operation.
Strong interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills.
Ability to clearly explain technical findings to both technical and non-technical clients.
Strong organizational and project management skills.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office and electronic project documentation.
Ability to work independently in the field while collaborating with a larger commissioning team.
Willingness and ability to travel frequently.
Minimum age requirement: 21 years old
Must be able to pass pre-employment and random drug and alcohol testing, background, motor vehicle record and reference checks.
Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license and an acceptable driving record in accordance with company and insurance requirements.
Must be authorized to work in the United States and eligible to obtain and maintain required access credentials for U.S. military installations and federal facilities, including DBIDS and/or CAC credentials when required.

Nice To Haves

Experience with major BAS platforms such as Tridium Niagara, Johnson Controls, Siemens, Automated Logic, Trane, Honeywell or similar systems preferred.
Commissioning or energy-related certifications such as CCP, CxA, BCxP, EBCP or equivalent are preferred but not required.

Responsibilities

Lead or support commissioning and retro-commissioning activities on assigned projects.
Perform field inspections and functional testing of HVAC, building automation/control, electrical, lighting, plumbing, life-safety and other building systems.
Evaluate existing HVAC and BAS operation through field investigation, trend review and functional testing.
Review sequences of operation, setpoints, schedules, alarms, sensors, actuators and control loops.
Identify operational deficiencies and opportunities to improve system performance, reliability and energy efficiency.
Review design documents, submittals, controls documentation and equipment information.
Develop and execute installation verification checklists and functional performance test procedures.
Troubleshoot building system performance issues and coordinate or verify corrective actions.
Maintain commissioning issue logs and track deficiencies through resolution.
Lead or participate in commissioning progress and coordination meetings.
Coordinate with owners, facility staff, contractors, engineers and controls providers.
Prepare field reports, commissioning documentation and final reports.
Support owner/operator training and project closeout activities.
Provide technical support to project teams.
Maintain safe working conditions and comply with project-specific safety requirements.
Support project schedules, including occasional evening, weekend or off-hours testing when required.
