About The Position

FusionIRX is seeking a senior Commissioning Process Subject Matter Expert to support a large-scale, state-of-the-art semiconductor manufacturing facility in Boise, Idaho. This is an independent contractor (1099) position performed 100% on-site. The SME will serve as a trusted technical authority, providing leadership and oversight throughout commissioning and collaborating with engineering, construction management, quality assurance, contractors, equipment manufacturers, and owner representatives. The role covers commissioning, testing, verification, startup, and turnover of critical process systems and utilities, including high-purity and specialty gas systems, chemical distribution, ultra-pure water, process cooling water, process exhaust and abatement, wastewater, process piping, instrumentation, and controls. The SME will review plans and procedures, assess readiness, oversee testing and startup, resolve technical issues, support safety and quality compliance, mentor commissioning professionals, and help ensure complete documentation and successful transfer of accepted systems to operations. The position calls for a recognized technical leader with substantial hands-on experience commissioning complex process systems in semiconductor fabrication or similarly sophisticated industrial environments. The successful candidate is expected to demonstrate sound judgment, integrity, accountability, respect, and professionalism while working in an active construction and commissioning environment with changing priorities and demanding project milestones.

Requirements

  • 15+ years of progressively responsible experience in process systems engineering, construction, commissioning, startup, or operations within semiconductor manufacturing, advanced manufacturing, or similarly complex industrial facilities.
  • Proven experience in a senior technical leadership, Lead SME, Commissioning Manager, or equivalent technical authority role.
  • Significant hands-on experience with critical process infrastructure and utility systems in high-technology manufacturing environments.
  • Demonstrated success commissioning process systems in active construction environments involving multiple contractors and technical disciplines.
  • Strong understanding of the commissioning lifecycle from installation verification through startup, performance testing, system acceptance, and turnover.
  • Extensive experience interpreting process flow diagrams (PFDs), piping and instrumentation diagrams (P&IDs), engineering specifications, equipment documentation, and system control narratives.
  • Demonstrated expertise troubleshooting complex system performance issues and developing effective corrective actions.
  • Ability to communicate with senior project leadership, engineers, construction personnel, and equipment suppliers.
  • Substantial expertise in several relevant areas, such as high-purity process piping, specialty and bulk gas delivery, high-purity chemical delivery, UPW, process cooling, chemical waste and industrial wastewater, process exhaust and abatement, instrumentation and controls, cleaning and testing, FAT/SAT, functional performance testing, commissioning documentation, or semiconductor contamination control.
  • Must be available to work on-site in Boise, Idaho.
  • Must be comfortable working in an active, large-scale semiconductor construction and commissioning environment.
  • Ability to participate in field inspections, commissioning activities, technical meetings, and operational readiness reviews.
  • Ability to collaborate with multidisciplinary teams and adapt to changing project priorities.
  • Must maintain compliance with applicable project safety, security, and site-access requirements.
  • Must demonstrate honesty, strong ethical principles, high moral standards, personal accountability, respect, professionalism, and a commitment to safety, quality, and project success.

Nice To Haves

  • 10+ years of directly relevant process systems commissioning experience, including substantial responsibility for large-scale, technically complex projects (listed as preferred).
  • Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Process Engineering, or a related technical discipline, or an equivalent combination of extensive practical experience and technical qualifications.
  • Prior commissioning experience on large-scale semiconductor FAB construction projects.
  • Experience working directly with semiconductor manufacturers, major EPC firms, and highly specialized process system contractors.
  • Familiarity with SEMI standards and safety requirements associated with semiconductor process infrastructure.
  • Experience with commissioning management platforms such as CxAlloy and construction management systems such as Procore.
  • Experience supporting complex, fast-track construction projects with demanding turnover milestones.
  • Direct semiconductor facility experience is strongly preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Provide senior-level technical leadership for commissioning, testing, verification, startup, and turnover of critical process systems.
  • Oversee commissioning of applicable process infrastructure, including gas delivery, chemical distribution, UPW, process cooling, exhaust and abatement, wastewater, piping, valves, instrumentation, and controls.
  • Evaluate system installation completeness and operational readiness; direct resolution of commissioning and performance issues.
  • Ensure commissioning complies with engineering specifications, project requirements, manufacturer recommendations, and applicable standards.
  • Review commissioning plans, procedures, schedules, execution strategies, test procedures, and functional performance requirements.
  • Participate in construction-to-commissioning transition planning and readiness assessments.
  • Verify pre-commissioning activities, inspections, flushing, cleaning, pressure testing, leak testing, and system verification are complete.
  • Support commissioning sequencing, system prioritization, and critical-path coordination; monitor progress and identify technical risks to milestones.
  • Ensure deficiencies are documented, tracked, resolved, and retested.
  • Provide oversight during equipment startup, system energization, functional testing, and integrated systems testing.
  • Verify system operation against performance specifications and acceptance criteria, including relevant pressure, flow, temperature, purity, and conductivity parameters.
  • Coordinate with instrumentation and controls teams to verify monitoring, control sequences, alarms, interlocks, and safety functions.
  • Support vendor startup, performance verification, system acceptance testing, and operational readiness reviews.
  • Ensure commissioning records accurately document test results, deficiencies, corrective actions, and final system status.
  • Lead or support troubleshooting, root-cause analysis, and corrective-action development for complex process commissioning issues.
  • Evaluate engineering discrepancies, installation deficiencies, and equipment performance concerns; identify risks and recommend practical solutions.
  • Escalate critical issues and provide clear, fact-based recommendations to project leadership.
  • Promote safety, quality, accountability, and continuous improvement; verify compliance with project QA/QC requirements and acceptance criteria.
  • Coordinate with quality teams to resolve nonconformances and outstanding inspection deficiencies.
  • Support compliance with applicable OSHA requirements, SEMI standards, NFPA requirements, project specifications, and site safety procedures.
  • Evaluate process systems for operational hazards before startup, promote safety protocols for hazardous infrastructure, and exercise stop-work authority under project procedures when unsafe conditions are identified.
  • Collaborate with construction management, engineering, commissioning, quality, safety, contractors, and owner representatives.
  • Mentor less-experienced commissioning professionals and communicate technical issues clearly to technical and nontechnical stakeholders.
  • Review commissioning checklists, test records, deficiency logs, and turnover documentation; ensure records are complete, accurate, and maintained.
  • Coordinate closure of commissioning punch-list items and support final acceptance, turnover meetings, and transfer to operations.
