About The Position

Coordinates the mechanical commissioning activities for LNG facility systems. This role ensures all rotating and static mechanical equipment is safely tested, validated, and handed over to operations in accordance with project specifications, regulatory requirements. Monitors and ensures that systems and components are designed, installed, tested, operated and maintained according to operational requirements and standards for safety and reliability. Coordinates interface among various stakeholders (e.g., procurement, health and safety, quality control, engineering, construction, project management). Documents commissioning procedures, provides operational assistance and troubleshooting and conducts training. Primary Purpose Leads commissioning for moderately complex systems by developing test plans, conducting cause-and-effect testing, and troubleshooting integration issues to achieve mechanical completion and operational readiness. The Mechanical Commissioning Engineer operates at the intersection of the EPC contractor's construction/commissioning teams and Sempra's Operations Readiness group. You are the Owner's eyes on mechanical system integrity, ensuring equipment is handed over in a condition that supports 25+ years of safe, reliable service.

Requirements

  • Typically requires a 4 year degree in a relevant field, or equivalent combination of relevant education and experience.
  • Typically requires 5 years of related experience.
  • Commissioning and Start-Up Management - Overseeing and managing the process of commissioning and starting up new systems or facilities, ensuring they operate efficiently and safely.
  • Equipment Installation - Fitting equipment or placing it somewhere so that it is ready to be used.
  • Engineering Drawing/Blueprint Interpretation - Engineering drawings are a rich and specific outline that shows all the information and requirements needed to manufacture an item or product.
  • Project/Program Management - The process of leading the work of a team to achieve goals and meet success criteria at a specified time.
  • Inspection Management - A critical process of quality control that involves measuring, examining, and reviewing materials against standard requirements to ensure materials or components conform to the standards and latest guidelines.
  • Verification and Validation - Verification and validation are independent procedures that are used together for checking that a product, service, or system meets requirements and specifications and that it fulfills its intended purpose.
  • Equipment Testing - Testing equipment to ensure it is compatible, safe, and compliant with all requirements.
  • Troubleshooting - A systematic approach to solving a problem.
  • Technical Reporting - A form of subjective and formal report that presents the objectives, processes, and results of technical work.
  • Instrumentation and Control Design - Designing systems for measuring and controlling various parameters in industrial processes or equipment.

  • Prior commissioning experience on large-scale LNG export projects.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and execute commissioning procedures for mechanical systems including compressors, pumps, turbines, heat exchangers, pressure vessels, piping, and cryogenic equipment.
  • Coordinate pre-commissioning, commissioning, and start-up activities with construction, process engineering, E&I, and vendor teams.
  • Review and validate mechanical completion certificates (MCC) and ensure system readiness for introduction of hydrocarbons and cryogenic fluids.
  • Witness and verify Factory Acceptance Tests (FATs) and Site Acceptance Tests (SATs) for critical rotating and package equipment.
  • Coordinates mechanical completion and system turnover with project teams.
  • Ensure all commissioning activities comply with API, ASME, NFPA, and project-specific safety and quality standards
  • Interface with OEM vendors during equipment start-up, performance testing, and warranty validation.
  • Ensures compliance with hazardous area classification requirements during commissioning.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
