About The Position

SFE Engineering is seeking an Entry Level Commissioning Engineer to join our team in Flushing. This is a full-time, on-site position within the Architecture/Planning industry, offering a strong foundation for professionals beginning their careers in building commissioning and systems performance verification. As a Commissioning Engineer, you will play an essential role in ensuring that building systems are designed, installed, tested, and operated according to project requirements and owner expectations. In this role, you will work closely with project managers, senior engineers, contractors, and clients to support the commissioning process from pre-design through occupancy. You will gain hands-on experience with HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and control systems while contributing to projects that prioritize energy efficiency, sustainability, and operational excellence. This position is ideal for a detail-oriented and motivated individual eager to develop technical expertise in a collaborative engineering environment. Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Architecture, Construction Management, or a related field
  • Entry level experience or internship exposure in engineering, construction, or building systems
  • Basic understanding of building mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
  • Good written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work effectively in a team-oriented and on-site environment
  • Willingness to learn commissioning processes, tools, and industry standards
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications and basic documentation tools
  • Ability to read and interpret basic technical drawings and specifications
  • Strong problem-solving mindset and eagerness to develop technical expertise

Responsibilities

  • Assist in the development and execution of commissioning plans for building systems
  • Support the review of design documents, submittments, and equipment specifications
  • Participate in site visits to observe installation, testing, and startup activities
  • Help document commissioning findings, issues, and resolutions in reports
  • Coordinate with contractors, vendors, and project teams during commissioning activities
  • Assist in functional performance testing of HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and control systems
  • Track and follow up on commissioning issues through resolution
  • Support preparation of commissioning reports, checklists, and closeout documentation
  • Learn and apply industry standards, codes, and commissioning best practices
  • Attend project meetings and provide administrative and technical support as needed
  • Maintain organized project records and ensure accurate documentation
  • Collaborate with senior engineers to improve commissioning processes and project outcomes
