About The Position

e2Companies is seeking a Commissioning Engineer to support on-site startup, testing, validation, and turnover of distributed generation, AC/DC energy storage, and medium-voltage infrastructure projects. This role works directly with the Commissioning Manager to support field execution, contractor coordination, electrical system validation, and safe energization of installed systems. The Commissioning Engineer will develop technical depth in switchgear, rectifiers, protection systems, and grid-interactive infrastructure while progressing toward independent commissioning authority. The ideal candidate brings strong electrical power systems knowledge, field experience with medium- and low-voltage equipment, and the ability to manage technical issues in live operational environments. e2Companies encourages both internal and external qualified candidates to apply! Location Requirement: We are seeking candidates who currently reside in the Eastern or Midwestern regions of the United States. Applicants located on the West Coast will only be considered if they are open to relocation to one of these regions.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or related technical discipline preferred.
  • 5+ years of experience in electrical power systems, commissioning, field service, or industrial infrastructure environments.
  • Experience working with medium-voltage systems up to 15kV or higher.
  • Hands-on experience with switchgear, transformers, rectifiers, VFDs, generators, or substations.
  • Strong understanding of electrical safety standards including NFPA 70E.
  • Willingness and ability to travel up to 70%.
  • Ability to troubleshoot under live operational conditions.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience commissioning distributed generation or energy storage systems.
  • Experience with high power DC rectifiers or industrial power conversion systems.
  • Utility interconnection experience.
  • Prior military electrical background.
  • Experience leading FAT or SAT activities.

Responsibilities

  • Field Commissioning & Startup Support on-site commissioning activities including inspection, testing, energization, and turnover of switchgear, power distribution systems, rectifiers, and generation assets.
  • Participate in Factory Acceptance Testing and Site Acceptance Testing activities.
  • Verify system installation against design drawings, protection settings, and commissioning checklists.
  • Assist with configuration and validation of protection relays, control systems, and power conversion equipment.
  • Troubleshoot electrical, protection, and integration issues during startup.
  • Support safe energization of systems in coordination with contractors and facility stakeholders.
  • Project & Contractor Coordination Coordinate with EPC contractors, electrical subcontractors, and vendors during installation and startup phases.
  • Ensure compliance with project specifications, safety standards, and commissioning schedules.
  • Document punch list items and verify closure prior to turnover.
  • Support schedule tracking and reporting for commissioning milestones.
  • Technical & Safety Leadership Ensure compliance with NEC, NFPA 70E, OSHA, and utility interconnection requirements.
  • Participate in lockout tagout procedures and electrical safety planning.
  • Review one-line diagrams, protection schemes, and equipment submittals for commissioning readiness.
  • Support root cause analysis and field corrective action plans.
  • Documentation & Turnover Develop commissioning reports, energization documentation, and turnover packages.
  • Maintain accurate field documentation and as-built markups.
  • Support knowledge transfer between engineering, construction, and operations teams.
