About The Position

The Commissioning Engineer supports onsite commissioning quality control by assisting contractors with startup preparation, executing checklists and functional testing, and closing the documentation that allows a system to be turned over. This position is fully onsite at the project in Childress, TX.

Requirements

  • 3+ years of commissioning, startup, or field engineering experience on industrial, high-tech, semiconductor, or mission-critical projects.
  • Ability to read and interpret construction documents, specifications, control sequences, and technical manuals, and to verify installed work against them.
  • Able to work fully onsite in Childress, TX, access all areas and levels of an active construction site, pass a pre-employment drug and alcohol screen, and work in the United States without sponsorship.

Nice To Haves

  • Thorough understanding of all aspects of commissioning, from pre-functional checklists through functional performance testing and turnover.
  • Familiarity with medium- and low-voltage distribution, large generators, UPS equipment, and electrical installations on large mechanical and process equipment.
  • Hands-on BMS, EPMS, or I&C verification and functional testing experience.
  • Hands-on experience supporting integrated systems testing and load bank testing.
  • Data center or other mission-critical MEP startup exposure.
  • Experience with commissioning management software such as Latista or equivalent.
  • OSHA 30 certification and current site-safety credentials.
  • Highly developed visual observation and interpretation skills.
  • Proficient in Windows and Microsoft Office 365 (Excel, Word, Outlook, Power Point and Teams), and have a strong understanding of working within a computer network.
  • Experience with project management software such as Prolog, Procore, E-Builder, Bluebeam, Microsoft Project, and Primavera Project Planner (P6).
  • Experience with design software such as AutoCAD, Revit and Navisworks.
  • Training in design and construction document reading, design specifications, survey theory and techniques.
  • Experience in organizing technical data in a neat and accurate method. Familiar with Construction Specifications Institutes (CSI) MasterFormat.
  • Strong understanding of construction means and methods, sequencing, and field practices.
  • Ability to work well and maintain a cooperative attitude in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple priorities.
  • Excellent time-management skills and ability to multi-task and prioritize work while frequently interrupted by phone calls and questions on work in progress.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills with an ability to develop strong interpersonal relationships.
  • Ability to work closely with variety of trade and craft people in a field work situation. Patience and professionalism are essential.
  • Must be a strong team player with the ability to collaborate with various personnel within and across departments and at all levels of leadership.
  • Work schedule must be flexible to allow extended hours or off-shift work to accommodate changing construction schedule and sequences.

Responsibilities

  • Perform verification of MEP, electrical, and controls system installations and witness testing against drawings, specifications, and sequences of operation.
  • Execute pre-functional checklists, startup verification, and functional performance testing, and support integrated systems testing and load bank testing.
  • Assist contractors with startup preparation, including readiness checks, checklist execution, and documentation review.
  • Ensure all systems are ready to operate safely and all safety precautions are in place before any system is operated.
  • Interface between trade managers and multiple subcontractors to assist in coordinating mechanical, electrical, and controls startups.
  • Maintain commissioning records, checklists, and status tracking logs in the project commissioning management system so documentation matches field conditions.
  • Interpret construction documents and technical manuals required for verification and document control.
  • Log, track, and close commissioning deficiencies, including verification of retest.
  • Compile turnover documentation, including O&M manuals, training records, and warranty start dates.
