About The Position

We are looking for a curious, highly engaged, and experienced visual creative who is immersed in fantasy art and passionate about pop culture to join our Universes Beyond product line for Magic: the Gathering. This role involves working within an established brand/IP while constantly looking to grow the brand’s audience and visual expression. You will collaborate with passionate teams to reimagine iconic brands and create experiences that spark joy, connection, and community through the magic of play. This is your chance to shape legendary play that lasts a lifetime and work with some of the most exciting artists in the industry on outstanding illustrations.

Requirements

2+ years of commercial art experience.
Strong communication and organizational skills.
Attention to detail.
Comfortable giving and receiving feedback.
A portfolio demonstrating strong creative vision with a cinematic lens.
A passion for pop culture and a pulse on current entertainment industry trends.
Understanding of Magic: The Gathering as both a game and a brand.
Deep knowledge of the current fantasy illustration market/talent.
Knowledge of modern print/press techniques and processes.
Adept in Adobe Photoshop.
Proficient in MS Office (Word, Excel, Powerpoint, Outlook).

Responsibilities

Commission a high volume of artwork by identifying freelance illustrators for each piece.
Provide continuous art direction on individual pieces.
Maintain solid relationships with freelance illustrators.
Provide regular updates to the card content producer on art status.
Research and understand partner brand IP(s).
Translate reference into customized style guides.
Successfully art direct to the specifications of external partners’ brands.
Review print-ready files to ensure final card quality.
