About The Position

Reporting to the Regional Head Chef, the Kitchen Assistant is an integral member of the Kids & Company team, supporting the day-to-day operations of the commissary kitchen through food preparation, cooking assistance, sanitation, inventory management, and food safety compliance. This position requires flexibility to work early morning shifts (4:00 am to 12:00 pm) and on-call schedules as operational needs arise. The successful candidate will work across various kitchen stations and production areas to support efficient meal preparation and service while consistently applying Kids & Company standards and procedures. Requirements

  • Availability: ON-CALL as needed
  • Work Timing: 4:00 am to 12:00 pm (If called)
  • 2 -3 years of Kitchen assistant-related experience.
  • High School diploma/GED equivalency required
  • Current Food Handler Certification.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Experience working in a high-volume kitchen environment.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds frequently.
  • Excellent organizational skills, detail-oriented, and a strong team player.
  • Selected candidates must have 2 pieces of valid government ID and must be able to pass a background criminal check.

Nice To Haves

  • College/University coursework in a culinary-related program preferred.
  • Experience in a daycare or long-term care environment would be an asset.

Responsibilities

  • Cut fruits and vegetables and assist with the preparation of hot lunches and daily food production.
  • Work across multiple kitchen stations, including food preparation, cooking support, dishwashing, receiving, packaging, and sanitation, based on operational requirements.
  • Support kitchen operations by adapting to different work areas and assisting team members as needed to ensure efficient workflow.
  • Receive, inspect, and properly store deliveries related to the commissary kitchen.
  • Ensure effective storage, management, and safe rotation (FIFO) of all food products and supplies.
  • Maintain safe food storage and disposal practices, including daily logging of food temperatures, sanitizer temperatures, and refrigerator/freezer temperatures.
  • Comply with all health, hygiene, food safety, and food handling regulations and legislation.
  • Follow proper washing and sanitizing procedures for all dishware and kitchen equipment.
  • Assist with scheduled cleaning and sanitizing of appliances, counters, cupboards, drawers, and food preparation areas.
  • Prepare food and supplies for field trips, school-age programs, and community events as required.
  • Assist with inventory organization, stocking, and maintaining a clean and organized work environment.
  • Perform other duties as assigned. Duties and responsibilities may change from time to time based on the needs of the commissary kitchen.
  • Ability to work effectively in different kitchen stations and production areas within a fast-paced, high-volume commissary environment.
