About The Position

Under direct supervision, the Commissary Clerk provides assorted items to detainees from an approved commissary list. The role includes receiving and storing commodities, maintaining sanitation, stocking merchandise, ordering supplies, managing inventory, filling orders, and verifying charges. The clerk also directs the workflow of detainees working in the commissary and helps conduct periodic inventories.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent certification.
• Strong business and organizational skills.
• Mature, flexible, cooperative, and empathetic approach to the total needs of the institution.

Nice To Haves

• Experience in a retail store as a clerk or stockroom clerk.

Responsibilities

• Receive, examine, and properly store commodities while ensuring appropriate sanitation standards.
• Stock display shelves and refrigerated boxes, with detainee assistance as needed.
• Order commodities from the approved commodities list.
• Maintain an inventory system that accurately tracks quantities on hand, purchased, and sold.
• Provide detainees with an up-to-date list of items stocked in the commissary.
• Fill orders and issue supplies from inventory.
• Ensure the commissary area is cleaned daily and free from pests or rodents.
• Direct the workflow of detainees working in the commissary.
• Assist with periodic inventories.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
