About The Position

Zymo Research is seeking a dynamic individual to join its Commercialization Team as a Portfolio Commercialization Manager. This role serves as a crucial link between scientific innovations and the market, responsible for translating complex technologies into clear customer value propositions, developing go-to-market strategies, and driving product adoption globally. The position requires a blend of portfolio ownership, market insight, commercialization strategy, and cross-functional leadership. The Portfolio Commercialization Manager will collaborate closely with R&D, sales, operations, and the Commercial & Innovation Strategist team to ensure successful product launches, revenue growth, and responsiveness to evolving customer needs. This role demands both strategic thinking and execution, managing the product lifecycle while equipping the organization with the necessary tools, messaging, and insights for market success.

Requirements

  • Advanced degree in life sciences (MS/PhD strongly preferred; BS with significant relevant experience considered).
  • 3–7 years of experience in product marketing, product management, or commercialization within the life sciences tools or biotechnology industry.
  • Alternatively, candidates with 3–7 years of industry R&D experience who demonstrate strong aptitude and interest in commercialization will also be considered.
  • Familiarity with sample collection, stabilization, and preservation technologies and associated molecular workflows.
  • Managed a product portfolio supporting sample collection, transport, preservation, and downstream molecular analysis workflows across academic, clinical, and industrial markets.
  • Experience commercializing and supporting internal teams and external customers on sample collection and preservation workflows and best practices.
  • Strong track record of product launches, revenue growth, and customer adoption strategies.
  • Hands-on understanding of molecular biology, genomics, microbiomics, diagnostics, or adjacent research fields.
  • Demonstrated ability to translate complex science into market-ready positioning.
  • Strong skills in market analysis, competitive insight, and business case development.
  • Excellent communication skills with ability to influence across technical and commercial teams.
  • Willingness to travel up to 30% for trade shows, conferences, and customer-facing events.

Responsibilities

  • Translate Zymo’s technical innovations into compelling customer-facing value propositions.
  • Develop clear product positioning, messaging, and differentiation strategies.
  • Partner with R&D to ensure products are designed and launched with strong market fit.
  • Own and grow assigned product portfolios, ensuring revenue expansion and market adoption.
  • Manage the complete product lifecycle, from concept through launch to maturity and sunset.
  • Develop and execute go-to-market (GTM) strategies, campaigns, and launch plans.
  • Shape pricing strategies, financial models, and forecasts to optimize adoption and profitability.
  • Identify customer needs and pain points through VOC (Voice of Customer) research.
  • Conduct market research on emerging technologies, competitors, and customer segments.
  • Monitor competitive landscapes to refine positioning and uncover growth opportunities.
  • Build product strategies, roadmaps, and business plans aligned with Zymo’s commercial priorities.
  • Equip sales, distributors, and internal teams with the knowledge, tools, and messaging needed to succeed.
  • Develop training programs, collateral, and value-based selling resources.
  • Support distributors and channel partners with technical messaging and positioning guidance.
  • Build and present business cases supported by VOC, competitive analysis, and financial modeling.
  • Guide investment decisions and portfolio prioritization for existing and adjacent opportunities.
  • Support strategic initiatives that align with broader portfolio and market needs.
  • Partner with R&D, sales, and operations to synchronize product strategies and launches.
  • Ensure scientific credibility and commercial alignment during product launch readiness.
  • Collaborate with the Commercial & Innovation Strategist team to connect portfolio growth with Zymo’s broader innovation roadmap.
  • Own and manage a portfolio of sample collection and preservation products including collection devices, stabilization reagents, transport media, and preservation kits.
  • Define product positioning across key workflows in molecular diagnostics, microbiome research, genomics, and biobanking.
  • Develop product roadmaps aligned with emerging trends in decentralized sampling, liquid biopsy, infectious disease testing, and ambient-temperature preservation technologies.
  • Monitor product lifecycle stages (launch, growth, maturity, sunset) and optimize SKU mix.
  • Partner with R&D to shape new product concepts, enhancements, and workflow innovations aligned with market needs in sample collection and nucleic acid preservation technologies.
  • Create targeted GTM campaigns, application content, and sales tools tailored to sample collection and preservation use cases.
