About The Position
Federated Insurance is seeking a Commercial Underwriter to join their team. This role is crucial in protecting businesses and providing peace of mind to clients by determining client needs and assessing risk. The company provides comprehensive paid classroom and hands-on training to equip new underwriters with the necessary skills. After training, underwriters are assigned a territory and work with minimal supervision, collaborating with internal departments to evaluate the risk of new and existing customers. The position begins with a two-week training program starting January 11th, 2027, in Owatonna, MN, with the role commencing on January 4th, 2027.
Requirements
- A four-year degree in a business-related field
- Strong analytical, computer and time management skills
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Responsibilities
- Gather and analyze information about a client’s or prospect’s business operations, history and location
- Alongside colleagues, decide what products and services the business needs
- Decide how much premium must be charged to cover the risk of insuring the business
- Offer risk management solutions designed to help the business operate safely and profitably
- Become an expert in the political landscape, legal climate, demographics, economy, environment, and competitiveness of your territory
- Periodically travel to your territory to gain additional knowledge and work directly with clients and prospects
- Use exceptional communication skills to build relationships with colleagues and clients
