Commercial Solar Filed Engineer
About The Position
Buffalo Solar is a leading commercial solar EPC focused on delivering high-quality, technically sound projects from development through construction. We pride ourselves on accuracy, professionalism, and seeing projects through to completion. We are seeking a Commercial Solar Field Engineer (Pre-Construction) to lead site assessments for commercial solar projects. This role is critical to project success — you will be responsible for capturing complete and accurate field data that directly informs engineering, design, and project feasibility. This is not an entry-level position. You will be expected to make informed decisions in the field, communicate findings clearly, and ensure all necessary information is collected on the first visit. You are the bridge between sales and engineering. Requirements
- Experience in commercial solar, construction, electrical, or related field
- Strong understanding of electrical systems and/or building structures
- Comfortable working on rooftops and in various site conditions
- Ability to work independently and make informed decisions in the field
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
- Excellent communication skills (both written and verbal)
- Valid driver’s license and willingness to travel within the region
Responsibilities
- Conduct on-site assessments of commercial properties for solar feasibility
- Capture accurate measurements of rooftops (primarily flat roofs) and site conditions
- Evaluate electrical infrastructure, including service panels, transformers, and points of interconnection
- Access roof and interior spaces (including mechanical rooms, attics, and structural areas as needed)
- Identify potential challenges related to structural, electrical, and layout constraints
- Document all findings with detailed notes, photos, and supporting data
- Provide clear post-assessment summaries to support engineering and design teams
- Communicate directly with facility managers and property owners during site visits
- Utilize tools such as drones, measurement equipment, and digital documentation platforms
