About The Position

Performs preventive maintenance, troubleshooting and repair of commercial refrigeration, commercial kitchen equipment, and commercial and residential heating, ventilation and air-conditioning systems. Work involves electrical, plumbing, refrigeration and controls. Supportive of the Village’s mission, values, and service/hospitality (PRIDE) expectations. Completes training as required by policy.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Valid driver’s license and proof of auto insurance.
  • Must have or be able to obtain a Missouri Class E driver’s license within 90 days of hire, if driving a company vehicle.
  • EPA Section 608 certification is Required.
  • Ability to read and interpret safety rules, operating instructions, equipment manuals, handbooks and procedure manuals, and to apply the basic mathematics needed for equipment service and troubleshooting.
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions, and to interpret blueprints, construction documents, equipment manuals, schematics and wiring diagrams.
  • Handles stress well, gets along with others and maintains acceptable standards of conduct.
  • Adheres to all safety regulations and requirements.
  • Must be able to acquire a Missouri class “E” driver’s license within 90 days of employment.

Nice To Haves

  • A minimum of 2 years of HVAC, commercial refrigeration or commercial kitchen equipment repair experience preferred.
  • Universal EPA Section 608 certification preferred.
  • Working knowledge of commercial refrigeration systems, refrigeration controls and safe refrigerant-handling practices preferred.
  • Experience troubleshooting and repairing commercial kitchen equipment and appliances preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Assists residents and John Knox Village associates to ensure completion of work orders.
  • Maintains, troubleshoots and repairs commercial refrigeration systems and equipment, including walk-in and reach-in coolers and freezers, ice machines, refrigerated prep equipment and related controls.
  • Performs preventive maintenance on commercial refrigeration, kitchen equipment and HVAC systems, including cleaning coils, replacing filters, checking temperatures and pressures, inspecting electrical components, and documenting equipment condition and service performed.
  • Diagnoses and repairs commercial kitchen equipment and appliances, including electrical, gas, plumbing and mechanical components, within the associate’s training and qualifications.
  • Maintains and repairs Village HVAC equipment, including commercial and residential heating, ventilation and air-conditioning systems.
  • Replaces or repairs defective controls, breakers, thermostats, switches, contactors, motors, filters, fuses and electrical wiring associated with assigned equipment.
  • Builds filter frames as needed.
  • Fabricates, assembles and installs ductwork and vents, and addresses dust, moisture and indoor air quality concerns.
  • Recovers, handles and charges refrigerants in accordance with EPA requirements and accepted trade practices.
  • Participates in environmental training and respirator usage as needed.
  • Documents completed work, equipment history, recurring failures and preventive maintenance results in the work order system.
  • Available on-call for emergencies, rotating weekends and evenings, and for snow removal as needed.
  • Adheres to all safety regulations and requirements.
  • Handles stress well and gets along with others within the workplace and with customers outside the department.
  • Maintains acceptable standards of workplace conduct.
  • Other duties as assigned.
