About The Position

Small Business Lending, LLC. is looking to add a Commercial Real Estate Portfolio Manager to its team. The Commercial Real Estate (CRE) Portfolio Manager is responsible for managing a portfolio of existing commercial real estate banking relationships while underwriting new commercial real estate loan requests. This position is accountable for prudent underwriting and effective credit and risk administration, with a strong emphasis on adherence to the Bank's credit policies and procedures, regulatory requirements, financial analysis, risk assessment, covenant monitoring, and ongoing portfolio maintenance.

Requirements

  • Minimum of five (5) years of commercial real estate and/or commercial & industrial (CRE/C&I) underwriting experience.
  • Minimum of four (4) years of commercial real estate and/or C&I portfolio management experience within a banking environment.
  • Strong knowledge of commercial real estate lending, underwriting principles, and credit risk management.
  • Thorough understanding of commercial real estate markets, property types, market dynamics, and industry trends.
  • Working knowledge of commercial banking regulations, credit policies, and loan documentation.
  • Strong financial analysis, credit underwriting, and cash flow modeling skills.
  • Excellent analytical, organizational, and problem-solving abilities with exceptional attention to detail.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills with the ability to clearly present credit recommendations and risk assessments.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Self-motivated with the ability to work independently while exercising sound judgment and decision-making.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience managing a commercial real estate portfolio in the New York City metropolitan market is strongly preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Manage a portfolio of commercial real estate loan relationships, ensuring strong portfolio performance and asset quality.
  • Underwrite new commercial real estate credit requests, including new loan originations, renewals, modifications, extensions, and refinancing opportunities.
  • Assess the creditworthiness of existing and prospective borrowers through comprehensive analysis.
  • Prepare detailed credit memoranda, annual relationship reviews, and risk rating recommendations in accordance with Bank policy.
  • Monitor portfolio performance by tracking loan maturities, past due credits, covenant compliance, financial reporting requirements, and other credit administration responsibilities.
  • Request, review, and analyze borrower financial statements, tax returns, rent rolls, operating statements, appraisals, environmental reports, and other third-party due diligence reports.
  • Ensure compliance with internal credit policies, lending guidelines, and applicable federal and state banking regulations.
  • Identify emerging credit issues and proactively communicate concerns to management while recommending appropriate action plans to mitigate risk and potential losses.
  • Partner with Relationship Managers, Credit Administration, Loan Operations, and other internal stakeholders to ensure timely servicing and ongoing management of the portfolio.
  • Maintain accurate loan files and ensure documentation supports sound credit decisions.
  • Stay current on commercial real estate market trends, economic conditions, and regulatory developments that may impact the portfolio.
