About The Position

The Commercial & Industrial loan portfolio is critical to UMB's success, and this team manages these relationships throughout their lifecycle. As a Portfolio Manager, you will be the gatekeeper for new Commercial & Industrial loan deals and existing commercial loan relationships. You will collaborate with Commercial Relationship Managers/Sales Officers to understand client needs, analyze historical financial data, and industry trends to qualify loan requests. You will also facilitate the administration of new and existing loan accounts, monitor loan performance against underwriting standards, identify expansion opportunities, and track covenants and past due payments. Supporting the commercial underwriting pipeline and acting as a problem solver for both clients and internal stakeholders are key aspects of this role, contributing to both internal growth and the commercial bank's loan growth.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Accounting, Finance, or related fields.
  • 7 years of banking or equivalent regulatory/bank policy experience, including credit analysis.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of Commercial & Industrial lending.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Strong level of credit underwriting skills.

Responsibilities

  • Manage and monitor the commercial portfolio, recognizing and managing early warning signs.
  • Analyze borrower/guarantor financial performance upon receipt of reporting requirements (monthly, quarterly, or annually).
  • Fully analyze and confirm borrowing base and financial covenant compliance.
  • Analyze payment performance benchmarks and perform regular financial reviews to ensure client loans perform to underwriting standards.
  • Underwrite new and existing loan business using Microsoft Excel and Word, dissecting client relationships, trends, collateral shortfalls, cash flow, and business/industry data.
  • Work closely with administrative staff to ensure compliance with loan documentation.
  • Provide recurring customer service to existing and prospective clients through joint sales calls with Relationship Managers or direct correspondence.
  • Support the commercial underwriting pipeline for both new and existing loan business.
  • Act as a problem solver for both clients and internal customers.
