About The Position

Under the supervision of the Chief Building Official (CBO), this role is responsible for reviewing non-residential construction documents to ensure compliance with the Ohio Building Code (OBC), Residential Code of Ohio (RCO), and all referenced mechanical, electrical, plumbing, energy conservation, and fuel gas standards. The Commercial Plans Examiner ensures commercial projects safeguard public health, safety, and welfare before building permits are issued.

Requirements

• Knowledge of the Ohio Building Code (OBC).
• Knowledge of the Residential Code of Ohio (RCO).
• Knowledge of referenced mechanical, electrical, plumbing, energy conservation, and fuel gas standards.
• Ability to access, maintain, and retrieve records and documents.
• Ability to generate plan review correction letters, conditional approvals, and adjudication orders.
• Communication skills for assisting the public and inspectors.
• Ability to assist with field investigations.

Responsibilities

• Reviewing non-residential construction documents for compliance with codes and standards.
• Ensuring commercial projects safeguard public health, safety, and welfare.
• Accessing and maintaining records, files, and documents related to plan reviews.
• Generating plan review correction letters, conditional approvals, adjudication orders, and other reports.
• Assisting and communicating with the public during the plan review process.
• Assisting inspectors during construction phases with information on approved documents, waivers, and code questions.
• Assisting the CBO with field investigations.
