As a Commercial Loan Underwriter, you'll review and analyze commercial loan applications, evaluate financial and credit data, and make informed decisions that support both member success and sound lending practices. You'll also serve as a trusted partner to internal teams, providing guidance on credit quality, risk, and loan structuring.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in finance, business, or a related field (or equivalent experience)
  • 5+ years of experience in commercial underwriting or credit analysis
  • Strong analytical, financial modeling, and decision-making skills
  • In-depth knowledge of commercial lending, credit evaluation, and loan structuring
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills with the ability to influence and guide others
  • Familiarity with lending regulations and compliance requirements, including fair credit practices
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and work effectively across all levels of the organization
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and lending systems

Responsibilities

  • Perform in-depth analysis of commercial loan requests - reviewing financial statements, tax returns, cash flow, and credit reports to determine repayment ability and overall creditworthiness.
  • Evaluate collateral, including appraisals, title reports, leases, and other supporting documentation to ensure adequate loan security.
  • Assess risk through detailed financial modeling, ratio analysis, projections, and stress testing.
  • Review legal and organizational documents.
  • Ensure loan documentation accuracy.
  • Support loan officers with ongoing portfolio management, including annual reviews.
  • Support underwriting staff, providing training and guidance.
  • Assist with complex or high-value credit relationships.
  • Stay up to date on lending policies, regulatory requirements, and industry best practices-ensuring compliance and consistent decision-making across the organization.
