About The Position

Responsible for contributing to the commercial lending activities by managing the risk of the commercial loan portfolio, through performing periodic reviews of existing commercial relationships, preparing loan modifications, and producing monthly and quarterly reports.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree required, preferably in accounting or finance
  • 3-5 years of financial analysis experience in a banking environment
  • A working knowledge of commercial credit analysis
  • Knowledge of credit and financial analysis techniques
  • Strong understanding of loan risk factors
  • Demonstrated ability to independently gather, consolidate, analyze and summarize data to provide well-considered recommendations for all levels of credit relationships.
  • Ability to perform detailed work in an accurate, organized and efficient manner

Responsibilities

  • Managing the coordination and collection of existing commercial loan members’ required financial reporting (monthly, quarterly and annual) in accordance with loan terms, conditions and Loan Policy requirements.
  • Monitoring and managing the commercial loan portfolio on a continuing basis as to collateral and credit quality and provide early warning of possible deterioration, inclusive of covenant testing, completion of periodic reviews, and monitoring of risk ratings.
  • Ensuring timely loan renewals, covenant monitoring and periodic relationship reviews.
  • Preparing clear, well-supported credit documentation, review memoranda, and risk commentary suitable for internal approval, audit, and regulatory review.
  • Reviewing exceptions, documentation issues, maturity exposure, covenant breaches, and other risk indicators and ensuring matters are appropriately tracked, resolved, or escalated.
  • Approving commercial loan requests and modifications within delegated authority limits.
  • Assisting in the coordination, design and development of various loan concentration and property sensitivity analysis reports.
  • Performing in-depth underwriting analysis of commercial borrower’s character, credit worthiness and financial condition.
  • Supporting the lending function by providing analytical support to the commercial lending team.
  • Analyzing financial statements, tax returns, cash flow analyses, collateral valuations, business projections and related material to prepare written credit analysis of individual and corporate borrowers.
  • Developing credit information for use by lenders and Member Business Loan Committee in lending decisions on new loans, renewals and extensions.
  • Reviewing and analyzing property financial information to determine actual income, expenses and projected debt service coverage.
  • Reviewing credit reports, appraisals, environmental reports, title reports and loan documentation for collateral property.
  • Providing quality analysis of financial statements according to established format and within parameters of loan review program; analyzing and preparing written analysis of new commercial member loan requests.
  • Examining and reviewing loan documentation for accuracy and completeness, referring deficient files to Vice President of Commercial Lending.
  • Completing loan review forms, researching, compiling and ensuring accuracy of information, including conducting credit investigations and the preparation and packaging of loan documentation.
  • Preparing various reports for Management, such as monthly and quarterly loan status reports.
  • Reviewing loan exception reports and tracking outstanding items, focusing on attention to detail with respect to compliance and applicable regulations throughout the function.
  • Overseeing and managing financial information files to assure current reports, statements, accounts receivable and other information on customer accounts.
  • Providing technical advice and assistance to loan officers as needed.
  • Generating business through promoting and cross-selling all COFCU programs and encouraging new credit union membership.
  • In the absence of the VP of Commercial Lending, meeting with applicants and obtaining information regarding earnings and financial condition to evaluate the applicant's creditworthiness.
  • Assisting with internal and external audits and examinations.
  • Performing miscellaneous duties, as requested.
  • Staying current on job-related equipment, procedures and/or information by reading handouts/memos, attending meetings and seminars and other necessary means.
  • Adhering to all applicable Credit Union policies, procedures and regulations.
  • Participating in special projects and community activities, as needed.
  • Performing all other duties and responsibilities as directed.
