About The Position

Under general direction, this position’s primary responsibilities include all aspects of portfolio management as relates to assigned portfolio loans together with the cross selling of Bank products and services. Additional responsibilities will include the facilitating of comprehensive credit analysis that evaluates the existing facilities in the portfolio. The loan portfolio shall consist of all types of commercial loans including but not limited to lines of credit, term notes, permanent owner-occupied mortgages, and/ or commercial construction. The role requires close collaboration with credit analysts, relationship managers, and senior leadership to support business growth and maintain strong client relationships. The Commercial Loan Portfolio Manager is responsible for performing a variety of duties to support the commercial loan originating function; assist with loan application processing tasks, e.g., obtain required information; compiling data; coordinating the procurement of require documents; verifying credit information; notifying sales personnel of credit information deficiencies; performing credit analysis; may approve commercial loans within established lending authority.

Requirements

  • College degree with a major in Business, Finance, Accounting, or equivalent work experience.
  • Strong understanding of commercial lending products, credit risk assessment, and regulatory compliance.
  • Proficiency in financial statement analysis and loan documentation review.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to effectively collaborate with internal teams and external clients.
  • Strong analytical skills are used daily to interpret financial data, identify trends, and make informed decisions that mitigate risk.
  • Communication skills are essential for collaborating with relationship managers, presenting findings to senior leadership, and maintaining client relationships.

Nice To Haves

  • Three or more years’ experience in a credit-underwriting environment is desired.
  • Recognized work experience in analyzing and interpreting basic financial statements and tax returns; underwriting principles and regulatory requirements.
  • Experience with loan portfolio management software and advanced data analytics tools.
  • Demonstrated leadership experience in managing teams or projects within a financial institution.
  • Familiarity with the Towson regional market and commercial lending environment.
  • Preferred skills such as experience with analytics tools enhance the ability to leverage data for strategic portfolio optimization and regulatory compliance.
  • Leadership and mentoring skills support team development and foster a collaborative work environment that drives continuous improvement.

Responsibilities

  • Manage and monitor the performance of a commercial loan portfolio, ensuring timely identification and resolution of credit risks.
  • Conduct detailed credit reviews and risk assessments to maintain portfolio quality and compliance with internal policies and regulatory requirements.
  • Collaborate with relationship managers and credit teams to support loan underwriting, renewals, and restructurings.
  • Prepare and present comprehensive portfolio reports and risk analyses to senior management and stakeholders.
  • Develop and implement strategies to optimize portfolio performance, including risk mitigation and growth initiatives.
  • Lead and mentor junior team members to enhance portfolio management capabilities and knowledge sharing.
  • Stay current with industry trends, regulatory changes, and economic factors impacting commercial lending.
