About The Position

OMNI Community Credit Union's Commercial Loan Officer is responsible for overseeing and coordinating all aspects of the Commercial Lending and Member Business Services Program. This role involves working effectively as a liaison with OMNI’s Credit Union Service Organization and strategic partner, Commercial Alliance for Commercial Lending. The officer will be expected to meet and/or exceed established commercial loan production goals. This position is flexible and can be worked from home, with the candidate ideally based in Michigan.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred.
  • Three (3) to six (6) years of related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.
  • Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, employees, regulatory agencies, benefit providers, and others.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
  • Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
  • Continuous use of judgment, reasoning, patience, and negotiation.
  • Frequent use of initiative, ingenuity, and creativity.
  • Frequent problem-solving.
  • In certain circumstances, problem resolution may require considerable diplomacy while dealing with difficult people.

Responsibilities

  • Managing and maintaining an existing portfolio of $8MM - $20MM.
  • Identifying, attracting, and soliciting new opportunities in target markets to drive commercial and business loan growth.
  • Negotiating, structuring, and underwriting new Commercial Loan opportunities including SBA 7(a) and 504.
  • Servicing of existing commercial loan portfolio and business members.
  • Presenting commercial loan opportunities to Senior Management and Underwriting.
  • Maintaining and growing referral sources in target market.
  • Collecting, verifying, and analyzing financial statements, tax documents, and business plans to make sound recommendations for commercial loans.
  • Effectively making and responding to cold calls, leads, and referrals while exceeding service standards.
  • Traveling to all branch locations and offsite business locations as required.
  • Interviewing applicants and pre-qualifying commercial applications for commercial loans.
  • Working with OMNI team members and Commercial Alliance, acting as the main conduit between the two organizations.
  • Being responsible for awareness of all issues and concerns related to their assigned portfolio and keeping both OMNI Senior Management and Commercial Alliance informed of issues, both current and potential.
  • Coordinating cross-selling activities in the commercial portfolio, including business and consumer depository products and services and consumer loan products.
  • Understanding and implementing organizational goals and expectations regarding volume, credit standards, and cross-sell activities.
  • Developing and maintaining a regular schedule for reporting commercial lending and cross-selling activity and performance to Senior Management.
  • Maintaining public relations and close contact with prospects, community organizations, and gatekeepers (attorneys, accountants, etc.), generating commercial leads on an ongoing basis.
  • Ensuring that all commercial files kept at OMNI are complete and well organized in relation to set standards.
  • Improving the ability of other employees who are sourcing commercial loans to pre-qualify prospects through continual training, mentoring, and empowerment.
  • Assisting members and team members with problems or questions regarding business services.
  • Organizing work and giving prompt attention to team member and member requests while meeting deadlines for assigned tasks.
  • Ensuring advanced knowledge of and compliance with Credit Union policies and procedures related to commercial loans.
  • Completing annual training of all required compliance regulations, including the BSA, and adhering to the regulations.
  • Maintaining ongoing communication with supervisor, informing them of all pertinent problems, irregularities, new developments, changes, and other important information within the area of responsibility.
  • Answering all telephone calls in a courteous and timely manner, and transferring calls to the appropriate personnel.
  • Maintaining a professional and courteous attitude with all people, including fellow team members, members, management staff, board members, and outside vendors.
  • Participating in Credit Union Marketing programs and campaigns.
  • Keeping open communication and building trust with team members and members.
  • Attending meetings as required.
  • Preparing and maintaining necessary reporting.
  • Following safety and security rules and regulations.
  • Protecting and respecting credit union equipment and supplies.
  • Performing other duties as directed by the Supervisor.
  • Demonstrating a favorable image when representing OMNI.
  • Displaying a high level of honesty, integrity, and confidentiality while exhibiting a professional demeanor.
