About The Position

NJM Insurance Group is a leading mid-sized U.S. property and casualty insurance company with a strong financial rating and a reputation for outstanding customer service. The company is transitioning to become a regional property & casualty insurer, expanding its product offerings and agency model. The Commercial Lines department operates within the Mid-Atlantic region, offering products such as Commercial Auto, G/L, Workers Comp, BOP, Excess/Umbrella, and Package. The Underwriting Technician is responsible for policy transactions, including new and renewal policy rating, issuance, and mid-term changes. This role also supports the Commercial Customer Contact Center by handling customer inquiries. Work must adhere to departmental time and quality standards. This is a hybrid role, requiring 3 days per week in the West Trenton office and offering 2 days per week remote work.

Requirements

  • Knowledge, skills & abilities, experience, minimum & desired education, certification and/or license requirements.
  • Ability to work with a high degree of accuracy and strong attention to detail.
  • Strong communications skills (verbal, written and active listening).
  • Ability to multi-task and to deal with interruptions and able to regain focus on task at hand.
  • Proficiency in computer usage, accurate data entry, Microsoft office suite and business-related software.
  • Ability to collaborate with co-workers.

Responsibilities

  • Verify accuracy and completeness of information necessary to process transactions.
  • Process transactions such as mid-term changes and issue new business and renewal policies.
  • Act on any specific renewal activities or instructions.
  • Review incoming policy specification inquiries and/or Renewal Questionnaires and recognize changes that need to be addressed and/or referred.
  • Manage all work assignments and plan for date sensitive activities in advance of taking PTO.
  • Seek advice and guidance from supervisor or other senior staff when unsure of how to handle a particular situation.
  • Handle certificate requests from customers in a timely fashion. If the certificates require more attention, they are to be sent to Supervisor or other senior staff for advice and guidance.
