About The Position

Morstan General Agency is seeking a Commercial Lines P&C Broker to join their growing team in Morristown, NJ. This role will involve gaining technical knowledge and understanding of internal processes and procedures to be effective in a Broker or Binding Authority Underwriter role. The Commercial Lines P&C Broker is responsible for assisting in achieving incremental sales goals and participating in various training and educational opportunities.

Requirements

  • Valid P&C license.
  • Bachelor’s Degree (B.A) from a four-year college or university or equivalent industry experience.
  • Proficient with MS Office Suite.
  • Exceptional telephone demeanor.
  • Ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality.
  • 0 - 5 years' experience in a similar position.

Responsibilities

  • Develop skills to interact with company and retail agent personnel diplomatically and knowledgeably to establish positive relationships, increase revenues, and retain policies.
  • Develop relationships with insurance agents, brokers, and carriers by attending sponsored events and participating in internal and external sales meetings.
  • Examine documents such as application forms, inspection reports, insurance maps, and medical reports to determine risk factors.
  • Request additional information if necessary and accept or reject risks in conformance with company guidelines.
  • Review, analyze, and underwrite risks submitted by Producers, rate submissions for premium and terms, analyze exposures for quotes for new and renewal business, issue written indications, quotes, and binders.
  • Use inspection companies to obtain further information, quote rates, or explain company underwriting policies.
  • Process new business in a timely and efficient manner to grow revenues and maintain retention and profitability.
  • Leverage mentorship relationships when marketing and meeting with retail agency customers to develop business and cultivate relationships.
  • Foster and improve relationships with other departments, producers, companies, and competitors.
  • Develop a thorough understanding of internal operations to successfully extend Company facilities, utilizing binding authorities or brokering risks when required.
  • Successfully negotiate a placement.
  • Complete and pass assigned educational courses, professional designations, and licenses courses and examinations.
