About The Position

Join our City Insurance program as a Commercial Lines New Business specializing in Multi-Family, Landlord, Apartment, and Condo insurance for small urban and mixed-use properties. You will be responsible for account pipeline management, risk selection, qualification, and pricing within the program guidelines and objectives, and selling the proposal to insurance brokers. You'll communicate and negotiate directly with brokers and carriers. This encompasses tasks such as ensuring accurate underwriting information, determining eligibility, maintaining well-documented insurance files, addressing questions, resolving issues, and servicing change requests.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 3 years of commercial property underwriting experience.
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Commercial Real Estate Insurance knowledge required.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills including negotiation skills.
  • Must be self-driven, detail-oriented, comfortable in a growing ever-changing organization, and have strong organizational skills including time-management and prioritization.

Nice To Haves

  • Understanding of habitational P&C policies preferred.
  • Property and Casualty insurance license preferred (6 months preparation time permitted).
  • Eager for continual learning; professional designations are a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Handle new business accounts through outbound interaction with various carriers and brokers.
  • Work collaboratively and communicate effectively with internal sales staff on new business submissions.
  • Underwrite habitational risks by identifying and analyzing risk exposures, loss frequency and severity against desired coverage.
  • Develop relationships with both external and internal customers, with the "customer experience" in mind, and deliver exceptional experiences with every interaction, in all modes of communication.
  • Provide and create solutions for a broad range of inquiries from brokers and team members.
  • Adhere to rating rules with proper file documentation.
  • Navigate our online broker portal to complete tasks and troubleshoot.
  • Identify opportunities to improve underwriting efficiencies.
  • Work independently within deadlines while understanding the necessity for communicating and coordinating work efforts with stakeholders.
  • Obtain and understand market intel and trends.
  • Handle work with a focus on underwriting profitability.
