About The Position

The primary function of this role is to drive profitable growth, strengthen agency relationships, and successfully manage a voluntary commercial auto book. The position is responsible for evaluating new and renewal business in accordance with the company's underwriting practices. Candidate will be hired at the appropriate level based on experience.

Requirements

  • 3+ years of experience in commercial lines underwriting or a related role within the industry
  • Knowledge of commercial auto (coverages, terms, concepts)
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent professional experience
  • Strong understanding of insurance industry practices, underwriting principles, and risk evaluation
  • Strong communication, organizational, and time management skills

  • Insurance education/designations preferred

Responsibilities

  • Evaluate new and renewal business. Makes profitable individual risk selection/judgments/recommendations within authority, based on Arbella’s underwriting philosophies and guidelines
  • Ability to review and accurately process endorsement requests
  • Maintain accurate underwriting documentation and information to meet underwriting guidelines and authority
  • Effectively manage a book of voluntary commercial auto business within the underwriting territory to provide excellent service to our agents, and meet company financial objectives
  • Provides timely, courteous and efficient service regarding underwriting and related matters to internal and external stakeholders.
  • Ability to effectively communicate the company appetite, products, and guidelines to our agents
  • Build and develop agency relationships with visits (in-person and virtual). Leverage agency relationships to help with company growth and retention initiatives
  • Collaborate with Marketing to help manage the assigned underwriting territory
  • Through ongoing education and training, maintain current skills and increase professional development of underwriting skills. Staying current on market conditions and industry trends is critical.
  • Ability to work independently in identifying risk/exposure, negotiating pricing, and understanding coverage
