About The Position

The Commercial Lender is responsible for new business development, relationship management activities and coordination of non-credit services within the Commercial Banking department. This position will report to the AVP, Commercial Banking and will work effectively with all groups within the credit union, including Credit Administration, Loan Administration and Cash Management. The Commercial Lender will possess strong credit and lending skills with proven experience in developing and managing commercial real estate, construction, C&I and participation loans. They will be a self-starter with strong communication, interpersonal and networking skills.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of the principals of commercial credit, commercial banking laws, federal and state credit union laws and regulations and the Credit Union’s Member Business Loan Policies and Procedures.
  • Experience in developing/managing commercial real estate loans, construction loans, C&I loans and participation loans.
  • Strong selling and negotiating skills with effective sales ability and persuasiveness.
  • Effective organizational and analytical skills, with high degree of computer literacy and fluency in various Microsoft programs, as well as Excel, Microsoft Outlook, Salesforce, nCino and Word.
  • Strong credit underwriting skills, including business and individual financial statement analysis with special focus on liquidity, leverage, cash flow and risk grading.
  • Excellent interpersonal, presentation and organizational skills.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively both verbally and in writing
  • Ability to work comfortably with all levels of company employees from entry level team members to senior staff and executive level management.
  • Ability to work independently and in a team environment.
  • Minimum 10 years of commercial banking and similar credit union experience.

Responsibilities

  • New business development and management of existing commercial real estate, construction, C&I and participation loans.
  • Generate and coordinate non-credit services within Commercial Banking.
  • Maintain frequent contact with existing borrowers in order to monitor risk levels, expand relationships, ensure member retention and provide high quality service.
  • Support the activities of the AVP, Commercial Banking to meet department goals and objectives.
  • Monitor and analyze various characteristics and metrics of both the existing loan portfolio as well as anticipated (pipeline) activity as requested by the AVP, Commercial Banking.
  • Identify prospects and referral sources for solicitation through the use of internal systems and external networking activities.
  • Analyze all credit/loan variables prior to review with Credit Administration or AVP, Commercial Banking.
  • Assist with completion of annual reviews (collecting updated financial information, reviewing Credit Administration questions with borrower, etc.) as necessary.
  • Perform site visits for construction and CRE loans to monitor project progress and property conditions.
  • Utilize Salesforce and nCino to track all steps of the workflow process.
  • Actively network with business and civic organizations.
  • Give back by volunteering regularly throughout the course of each year.
  • Actively engage with other credit unions and banks to develop loan participation opportunities (buying and selling).
  • Provide “consultative” service to members and prospects to help determine which of the credit union’s credit and non-credit products/services best meet their objectives.
  • Maintain an awareness of competitive products, practices, and pricing that reflect changes in the Credit Union’s primary market area.
  • Keep abreast of economic, financial and political trends to assist in the determination of risk in establishing and maintaining member relationships.
  • Maintain confidentiality regarding credit union policies and procedures, member financial data, personal information, and work-related events.
  • Provide quality support and maintain a professional relationship with peers, management, other staff, and members through cooperation, mutual trust and respect
  • Maintain contact with each business member after each new loan closing to ensure high satisfaction.
  • Perform other duties as required.

Benefits

  • Annual salary starts at $83,063 and may be higher depending on qualifications and relevant experience.
