About The Position

Commercial Drivers with a Class 1 license are needed to operate a tractor-trailer combination or a truck to transport and deliver home heating and commercial products to various locations including retail sites and marinas. Drivers will spend time in the cab while driving and outside when loading or unloading. The role involves navigating diverse road, weather, and traffic conditions, often working without direct supervision but maintaining communication with dispatch. Driving hours are regulated, and overtime and weekend work are common.

Requirements

Class 1 Driver’s License required
High School Diploma required
2+ years’ experience in fuel hauling
3+ years of direct work experience in a Class 1 Driving Capacity
Safe Driving Record and strong commitment to safety
Must be able to drive standard transmission

Nice To Haves

Delivery fuel experience is an asset but not required
Knowledge of Tablet use, and e-mail required
Professional written and verbal communication skills

Responsibilities

Oversee cargo handling and secure loads, including equipment preparation, application of safe practices, and compliance with applicable Acts and safety regulations.
Perform pre/post-trip inspections on equipment and load, ensuring safety and roadworthiness.
Comply with applicable legislation including safe operation, carriage of goods, driver's hours of service, occupational health and safety, transportation of dangerous goods, customs and immigration, and weights and dimensions.
Maneuver trucks into loading or unloading positions; check that vehicle position is correct and any special loading equipment is properly positioned.
Check vehicles before driving to ensure mechanical, safety, and emergency equipment are in good working order.
Perform minor roadside repairs such as lights, loose fittings, and airline repairs.
Report vehicle defects, accidents, traffic violations, or damage to vehicles.
Check all load-related documentation for completeness and accuracy.
Operate equipment such as a truck mike phone to exchange necessary information with dispatch, managers, or other drivers.
Maintain logs of working hours and vehicle service and repair status, following applicable provincial and federal regulations.
Record and maintain required documentation including driver logbook, bills of lading, etc.
Communicate effectively with the public, government officials, customers, and co-workers.
Placarding of units.
Loading and unloading of trucks.
Deliver product and proper paperwork to customers courteously and in a timely manner.
Inspect site tanks for damage or faulty equipment.
Provide feedback to Dispatcher regarding customer, mechanical, or delivery problems.
Thoroughly wash vehicles, inside and out.
Grease units between servicing as instructed.
Perform tire chain maintenance, repair, installation, and removal.
Complete and turn in all necessary paperwork at the end of the shift, including but not limited to, Driver daily logs, TDG documentation including fuel lading forms (declining balance), bills of lading, inspection logs, delivery receipts, vehicle inspection, and hours of service.
Train others when required.
Perform other related duties as required or assigned.
