About The Position

Peoples Bank is seeking a Commercial Credit Underwriter to provide high-quality credit analysis and underwriting. This role involves identifying and evaluating credit risks and mitigants for moderately complex loan requests, ensuring compliance with established processes, quality standards, and responsiveness expectations. The underwriter will evaluate credit requests, structure, and loan codes, contributing to the bank's goal of being the Best Community Bank in America.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree required.
  • Specialization in accounting, finance or economics preferred.
  • 5+ years of commercial credit underwriting, risk management or equivalent experience preferred.
  • Excellent credit analysis, risk management and loan structuring skills.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong problem solving and conflict resolution skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills.
  • Highly organized and attentive to detail.
  • Proven ability to exercise discretion and sound judgment.
  • Proven ability to effectively communicate viewpoint and make independent decisions.
  • Well-versed on bank’s credit policy.
  • Current on applicable banking laws, regulatory requirements and credit/risk management practices.
  • Proficient with the Microsoft suite of products and commercial loan origination system software platforms.
  • Some travel required; must have a valid driver's license for travel throughout Peoples Bank footprint of offices.

Responsibilities

  • Underwrites primarily moderately more complex loan requests to meet customer and prospects needs while also best protecting bank.
  • Performs high quality credit analysis and underwriting to ensure credit risks are identified and adequately mitigated including but not limited to repayment sources, collateral coverage and industry impact.
  • Evaluates credit requests and structure.
  • Complies with established processes, quality standards and responsiveness expectations.
  • Validates loan codes within loan packages to ensure accuracy.
  • Participates in Pre-Flight discussions and memorializes takeaways.
  • Builds out loan request details within loan origination system in conjunction with commercial banking portfolio managers.
  • Performs appraisal review and evaluation if applicable.
  • Validates risk ratings and requests changes if warranted.
  • If needed, performs spreading, loan renewals and extensions, annual shelf reviews, collateral analysis for releases, covenant testing and risk rating validation with proper identification and evaluation of risks and mitigants.
  • Adheres to bank’s policies and procedures and complies with regulatory requirements.
  • Will perform special projects as assigned.
