About The Position

The Commercial Core Underwriter & Portfolio Manager is a key member of the "coverage team", managing transactions and business portfolio tasks. Portfolio Managers & Underwriters are expected to be intimately involved in understanding the customer relationship, making recommendations on appropriate credit structures, and performing tasks that monitor and manage ongoing risks. They are directly accountable for managing a portfolio of accounts through their review of updated financial statements and proactive monitoring. This role will generally manage and underwrite smaller, less complex relationships and within the Core Channel. Responsible and accountable for risk by openly exchanging ideas and opinions, elevating concerns, and personally following policies and procedures as defined. Accountable for always doing the right thing for customers and colleagues and ensures that actions and behaviors drive a positive customer experience. While operating within the Bank's risk appetite, achieves results by consistently identifying, assessing, managing, monitoring, and reporting risks of all types.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Business (e.g. Business Administration, Finance, or Accounting).
  • At least 3 years credit analysis and/or loan review experience in Commercial Banking.
  • Strong analytical skills and critical thinking skills.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to partner with all deal stakeholders including relationship manager, sales and credit teams.
  • Expertise in financial and risk analysis.
  • Demonstrated expertise in using effective problem solving.
  • Proficient with technology and ability to learn new applications.

Responsibilities

  • Accountable for managing and monitoring a portfolio of accounts.
  • Review and recommend credit decisions.
  • Partners with the Relationship Manager, forming the “coverage team.”
  • Ensure loan structure is correct regarding borrowers and guarantors, deal structure, credit terms and conditions, and financial covenants.
  • Value collateral.
  • Contribute to work flow or process change and redesign, and to form a strong basic understanding of the Credit Lending process.
  • Focus on execution within defined credit lending process.
  • Perform final risk rating analysis.
  • Capture and document credit decisions, conditions, and modifications.
  • Perform Monitoring action and conduct periodic relationship Review.
  • Execute decisions to renew or modify deals.
  • A focus on continuous learning to keep up with ever-changing market dynamics.
  • Analyze new credit requests and Provide loan decisions and/or credit recommendations based on a review of all underwriting criteria, including loan structure, collateral, interest rate, and fees.
  • Effectively communicate loan decision to loan originator (Relationship Manager).
  • Identify and review all necessary due diligence items.
