About The Position

Engen Contracting (ECI) is hiring a Commercial Construction Superintendent to lead day-to-day field operations for ground-up and tenant improvement commercial construction projects in the Houston market. The Superintendent is responsible for bringing projects from mobilization through completion safely, on schedule, within budget, and in accordance with ECI’s quality standards. This is a field leadership role requiring strong communication, accountability, proactive problem-solving, and relationship-building with clients, trade partners, and project teams. The role coordinates subcontractors, suppliers, inspectors, consultants, municipal agencies, and project stakeholders; maintains schedules and project documentation; and ensures compliance with safety requirements, plans, specifications, and building codes. The position is full-time and based in the Houston, Texas market. It is not a traveling Superintendent role, and the aim is to keep Superintendents working within their assigned market. Certain project phases may require additional hours to meet critical milestones.

Requirements

Experience as a Superintendent with a Commercial General Contractor.
Experience managing ground-up and tenant improvement commercial construction projects.
Commercial General Contractor experience is required; candidates whose experience is limited to residential or multifamily construction will not be considered.
Strong leadership and organizational skills.

Strong understanding of civil, structural, architectural, and MEP coordination.
Ability to motivate subcontractors while maintaining schedule, safety, and quality expectations.

Valid Texas Driver’s License; candidates relocating from out of state must obtain one within 60 days of employment.
Must successfully complete a pre-employment background check and drug screening.

Responsibilities

Lead field operations from mobilization through project completion.
Develop, maintain, and update project schedules.
Coordinate subcontractors, suppliers, inspectors, consultants, and municipal agencies.
Conduct weekly subcontractor coordination meetings.
Drive production while maintaining quality, safety, and schedule expectations.
Enforce OSHA standards and ECI safety policies.
Conduct weekly toolbox safety meetings.
Coordinate inspections and ensure compliance with plans, specifications, and applicable building codes.
Generate and manage punch lists through project closeout.
Complete daily reports, progress photos, and project documentation in Procore.
Communicate with Project Managers, Owners, Architects, Engineers, inspectors, and subcontractors, and respond promptly to requests from office staff and project stakeholders.
Maintain accurate project documentation throughout the project lifecycle.
Interpret architectural, structural, civil, and MEP construction documents.
Coordinate subcontractor scheduling and sequencing.
Review and verify subcontractor change orders.
Manage material deliveries, equipment logistics, and overall site coordination.
Coordinate sitework, utilities, structural systems, and MEP activities across horizontal and vertical commercial construction.
Identify challenges early and develop effective solutions.
Build relationships with clients and trade partners, mentor trade partners, and support and develop teammates.
