About The Position

This role involves inspecting the exterior and interior of vacant, occupied, industrial, commercial, and residential buildings to ensure compliance with Anti-Neglect Ordinances. The inspector will interpret ordinance requirements, recommend corrective actions, and inform property owners of necessary repairs or reconstruction. Responsibilities include reviewing and approving rehabilitation plans prepared by licensed architects, conducting follow-up inspections, and issuing summonses or citations for ordinance violations. The inspector will also evaluate buildings for hazardous conditions on a complaint basis, issue violation notices and stop-work orders, and appear in court for enforcement matters. Additionally, the role requires ensuring correct performance of repairs or alterations, conducting initial site visits during construction, maintaining detailed inspection logs and reports in a computerized system, examining plans for code compliance, and verifying corrections of violations.

Requirements

  • Valid driver's license

Responsibilities

  • Inspects the exterior and interior of vacant and occupied industrial buildings to determine compliance with Anti-Neglect Ordinances.
  • Interprets ordinance requirements and recommends corrective action.
  • Informs owners of repair/reconstruction work required to comply with ordinances.
  • Reviews and recommends approval of owner's rehabilitation plans prepared by a licensed and registered architect.
  • Conducts quarterly follow-up inspections to monitor rehabilitation status.
  • Drives to various site locations to conduct inspections on commercial and industrial buildings.
  • Issues summons and/or citations on matters relating to the enforcement of the Anti-Neglect/Derelict Building Ordinance.
  • Evaluates existing buildings, on a complaint basis, for hazardous conditions and issues violation notices and stop-work orders until building is compliant.
  • Appears in court on matters relating to the enforcement of the Anti-Neglect/Derelict Building Ordinance.
  • Ensures repairs or alterations are performed correctly and conducts site visits during first phase of construction to make initial inspection.
  • Maintains and keeps inspection logs and various reports including photographs, notes of conversations, videos, correspondence, field reviews, and other related information into a computerized system.
  • Examines plans to ensure structure complies with building codes.
  • Follows up to verify corrections of violations are made and takes appropriate action to insure compliance.
