Commercial Application Engineer

GE VernovaLongmont, CO
$92,800 - $154,700Remote

About The Position

The Opportunity If you're someone who loves being at the intersection of deep technical knowledge and the thrill of winning a deal, this role was built for you. At GE Vernova's Software & Control Solutions (SCS) business, we design and deliver industrial control systems and digital solutions that keep power plants and grid operators running — safer, smarter, and more reliably across the globe. As a Commercial Application Engineer (CAE), you'll be the connective tissue between what customers need and what we can build. You'll lead complex, high-stakes proposals from first contact through contract, bringing together sales, engineering, finance, and risk teams to craft technically sound, commercially competitive solutions. This is a role where curiosity, precision, and commercial instinct come together — and where the work you do directly shapes how GE Vernova grows. Job Description Key Responsibilities Lead end-to-end proposal development for core and complex industrial control system offerings — from reviewing customer specifications, requests for proposals (RFPs), and requests for quotations (RFQs) to submitting fully costed, technically tailored bids on time. Own deal financials and risk management, including technical, execution, and commercial risk assessment within the inquiry-to-order (ITO) process — and present deals to the Commercial Review Board (CRB) for approval. Serve as the primary point of contact for customers, channel partners, and internal stakeholders throughout the proposal lifecycle, providing application engineering guidance and driving alignment across teams. Develop competitive pricing and deal strategy in partnership with the sales and pricing teams, leveraging quoting tools, technical libraries, hardware configurations, and design standards to build differentiated solutions. Coordinate cross-functionally with supply chain, third-party providers, and execution teams — including managing the handover from the ITO phase to the order-to-remittance (OTR) phase upon contract signature. Contribute to continuous improvement of commercial processes, proposal templates, and application guides — and actively track performance against key commercial metrics including proposal quality, cycle time, and on-time delivery.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Technology, or a related field — or equivalent combination of education and relevant professional experience (see below)
  • Proven experience in technical sales, commercial proposals, or application engineering within industrial controls, power generation, or a related technical domain
  • Demonstrated ability to read and interpret technical specifications, customer drawings, and contractual terms and conditions
  • Strong oral and written communication skills, with the ability to present complex technical and commercial content to diverse stakeholder audiences

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with industrial control systems (e.g., distributed control systems (DCS), programmable logic controllers (PLCs), or SCADA — supervisory control and data acquisition)
  • Familiarity with project risk management frameworks and commercial review processes
  • Experience managing tender schedules and multi-stakeholder bid processes
