Sr. Commercial Analytics Associate

Grid UnitedHouston, TX

About The Position

Grid United is a mission-driven company focused on developing long-haul electric transmission lines in the United States to improve grid reliability, resilience, and affordability. Established in 2021, Grid United is in a fast-growth stage, developing utility-scale electric multi-state transmission projects. The company emphasizes effective stakeholder engagement and positive community involvement. This role is crucial for performing quantitative analyses that demonstrate the value of Grid United’s interregional transmission projects to markets, customers, and regulators. The position reports to the Manager of Commercial Analytics and is based in the Houston office. The specific title (Senior Associate or Associate) will depend on the candidate's experience and demonstrated independence.

Requirements

  • 3-5 years of experience in energy analytics, resource adequacy, wholesale power markets, transmission planning, or a similar quantitative role at a utility, RTO/ISO, consultancy, developer, or trading organization.
  • Hands-on experience with probabilistic resource adequacy modeling; direct experience with SERVM is strongly preferred, and comparable loss of load or ELCC modeling frameworks are welcome.
  • Experience with one or more production cost or capacity expansion platforms (e.g., AURORA, PROMOD, PSO, PLEXOS, EnCompass, GridView) or a demonstrated ability to learn them quickly.
  • Proficiency in Python and SQL for data assembly, automation, and analysis of large datasets.
  • Exceptional attention to detail, including rigor in input assembly, quality assurance of model outputs, and clear, defensible documentation.
  • A strong sense of ownership and the initiative to work through problems independently before escalating. Candidates at the senior end of this role will be adept at resolving complex issues on their own and at anticipating and raising questions and risks before they arise.
  • Working knowledge of RTO/ISO market constructs, including capacity markets, resource accreditation, and interregional transfer frameworks, in one or more of MISO, SPP, WECC, ERCOT, PJM, or the Northeast markets.
  • Strong writing skills, including both technical and persuasive writing, and the ability to read and digest large amounts of information rapidly.
  • Adaptability and flexibility to manage deadline pressure, ambiguity and uncertainty, and project changes.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a small, nonhierarchical organization.
  • A Bachelor’s degree in engineering, economics, mathematics, or another quantitative field is typical, but strong equivalent experience is equally valued. Advanced degrees are helpful but not required.
  • Proactive and open to embracing new challenges, with a positive, professional, and energetic team-oriented attitude.
  • Embodies Grid United’s core values of ingenuity, tenacity, humility, and grace.

Nice To Haves

  • Direct experience with SERVM is strongly preferred.
  • Comparable loss of load or ELCC modeling frameworks are welcome.
  • Advanced degrees are helpful but not required.

Responsibilities

  • Build, run, and maintain probabilistic resource adequacy models (e.g., SERVM) to quantify the reliability and capacity value of Grid United’s projects, including loss of load, ELCC, and resource accreditation analyses across RTO and utility frameworks.
  • Perform and interpret production cost, congestion, and capacity expansion modeling, both in-house and through review of consultant-driven studies, to support project valuation and commercialization.
  • Assemble, validate, and document model inputs (load, generation, transmission topology, weather) with rigorous quality control so that every result is reproducible and defensible.
  • Develop commercial and revenue analytics spanning capacity value, energy arbitrage, and congestion relief across markets such as MISO, SPP, WECC, and ERCOT.
  • Support regulatory strategy and RTO/ISO stakeholder processes with quantitative analysis, white papers, and technical comments.
  • Work cross-functionally with Grid United’s commercial, regulatory, and finance teams to ensure analytical products directly support commercialization, regulatory strategy, and project financing needs.
  • Automate data pipelines and analytical workflows in Python and SQL, and build clear reporting for internal and external audiences.
