About The Position

Equitable Bank, Canada's Challenger Bank, is seeking a Commercial Account Manager for its growing and dynamic Commercial Portfolio Management team. The bank serves over 800,000 customers across Canada and has over $142 billion in combined assets under management and administration. The Account Manager will be responsible for the day-to-day management of an assigned group of lending partners and their associated portfolio of conventional and construction mortgages, from funding through maturity. This role involves delivering superior customer service by underwriting renewals, assumptions, refinances, and loan modifications to meet annual retention targets, while adhering to established policies and underwriting standards. Additionally, the incumbent will monitor risks within the commercial construction lending portfolio, including project status and covenants, identifying and mitigating execution risk through communication with stakeholders, regular site inspections, and overseeing work by the Commercial Analyst. The Account Manager must ensure portfolio risk is controlled within the Bank's risk appetite and that loans comply with lending parameters through annual reviews. The role also includes credit-related and administrative duties such as subsequent advances, reporting, pipeline management, and networking with external business partners and internal departments.

Requirements

  • Post-secondary education preferably in business or finance
  • Proficient underwriting skills with a minimum 2-4 years’ commercial mortgage experience
  • Working knowledge of AML/ATF regulations and Corporate/Legal documentation for commercial real estate in multiple jurisdictions across Canada
  • Sound technical knowledge of commercial real estate underwriting, financial statement analysis and factors affecting the commercial mortgage market
  • Good working knowledge of MS Office (primarily Word and Excel)
  • Effective analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Strong organizational and time management skills
  • Ability to handle multiple competing priorities
  • Strong negotiation skills
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently to achieve goals
  • Highly developed verbal and written communication skills with the ability to communicate to Senior Management and Partners in a clear, concise and professional manner

Responsibilities

  • Provide superior customer service with respect to assigned relationships, negotiating and completing renewals, refinances, extensions, assumptions, annual reviews, and ad-hoc requests quickly, efficiently, and accurately.
  • Review on-going sub-advance requests prepared by the Commercial Analyst, ensuring projects remain on schedule and on budget, and working with lending partners to address cost overruns.
  • Ensure that credit risk associated with the portfolio of mortgages is controlled and within approved guidelines, thoroughly assessing credit documentation and submitting recommendations in compliance with delegated authority limits.
  • Communicate with internal contacts (management, originations, funders, coordinators, etc.) to ensure all transactions and ad-hoc requests meet prescribed deadlines in a timely and efficient manner.
  • Prepare specific reports on assigned categories for the department/Company on a weekly, monthly, and/or quarterly basis, to be relied upon by Senior Management.
  • Contribute to special projects as assigned from time to time.
