About The Position
People Inc. is seeking a writer for its News & Deals team to create timely home, fashion, and lifestyle shopping content for People Inc. home brands. Content may include sale roundups, single-product reviews, writer-loved pieces, seasonal and trending items, and other shopping coverage. The writer should be passionate about finding and recommending products and comfortable working in a fast-paced environment. The role is part of the People Inc. Home Commerce team, which helps readers of Real Simple, Better Homes & Gardens, Southern Living, and The Spruce find products to improve their lives and homes. Product reviews are independent and based on research and product testing conducted by editors and writers. Writers must be based in the U.S. They may work remotely or live near a People Inc. office in New York City, Des Moines, Birmingham, Los Angeles, or Chicago. The role requires less than 1% travel.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Journalism, or a similar field.
- At least 2 years of relevant experience.
- Knowledge of the home and lifestyle space and a passion for writing, shopping, and finding products to recommend.
- Attention to detail and ability to meet deadlines.
- Knowledge of SEO best practices.
- Strong writing skills, including the ability to create engaging, lively copy while following a brand’s voice, values, and style.
- Ability to work independently and incorporate feedback from multiple stakeholders.
- Ability to brainstorm, source, and conduct expert interviews for content pitches.
- Must be based in the U.S.
Responsibilities
- Pitch and write one to two shopping articles per day that generate affiliate revenue.
- Use data and analytics to brainstorm and guide content decisions.
- Track content performance using various analytic tools.
- Collaborate with writers and editors on the home vertical and with teams across People Inc.
- Monitor social media, including TikTok and Instagram, for commerce opportunities such as viral products.
- Build and publish content within the content management system (CMS).
- Contact experts to obtain background information and quotes as needed.
- Attend bi-weekly editorial meetings and report relevant insights to the Home News & Deals team.
- Complete administrative tasks and participate in team meetings.
